    • Report: White Sox intend to trade Garrett Crochet
      USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported that “the White Sox intend to trade [Garrett Crochet] by the July 30 trade deadline.”

      Advice: According to Nightengale, the White Sox “quietly engaged in brief contract extension talks” with Crochet,” but there is “no optimism towards reaching an agreement,” so the team is now intent on moving him. As of now, the White Sox have allegedly had 15 teams call to express interest in Crochet, who is making just $800,000 and is under team control through 2026. Some potential concerns surrounding the left-hander are just how much he’ll pitch over the summer after having already thrown 21 more innings than his entire career total heading into this season. There are some additional concerns about whether “a team acquiring Crochet may have to offer a contract extension for him to lift those innings restrictions in the second half because of the potential of an injury risk.” We should get more clarity on Crochet’s market over the next couple of weeks, but he seems like a strong bet to be dealt.       Birdsong is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday in Atlanta, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: The banged-up Giants have only two members of their Opening Day rotation (Logan Webb and Jordan Hicks) available at the moment, so San Francisco should have a spot available for Birdsong until at least three of Kyle Harrison (ankle), Blake Snell (groin), Alex Cobb (hip), Robbie Ray (elbow) and Keaton Winn (elbow) come back from the injured list. After being expedited to the big leagues last week following just two starts at Triple-A Sacramento, Birdsong demonstrated shaky command in his MLB debut against the Cubs on Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. On a positive note, Birdsong induced nine swings and misses and finished with five punchouts. His long-term outlook remains promising, but Birdsong shapes up as a risky fantasy option heading into what will likely be a two-start week.       Roupp worked 2.2 innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Dodgers, giving up three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three.

      Advice: Heading into Sunday, Roupp had been residing on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list, but he had made three rehab appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Rather than having him slot back into the Sacramento rotation Sunday, the Giants instead called him up from the minors to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen. Roupp ended up piggybacking starter Spencer Bivens, who tossed five innings of one-run ball before leaving the game. With the rotation having been hit hard by injuries lately, the Giants could have two openings during the upcoming week, but Bivens pitched well enough to earn one of those spots.       Reid Detmers allowed three runs on four hits in six innings while striking out 11 for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

      Advice: Detmers now has 21 strikeouts in his last two games, which is the good news. The bad news is that he has allowed eight runs in 12 innings over those two starts.       Detmers tossed six innings for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 11 batters.

      Advice: Detmers was optioned to Triple-A on June 1 after a series of poor starts with the Angels. His first minor-league outing since 2022 didn't go well, as he gave up seven runs over five frames in a June 7 start versus Sugar Land. The southpaw has improved since, and over his past two outings with Salt Lake he's struck out 21 hitters across 12 frames, though he's also surrendered eight earned runs over that stretch. Overall, Detmers has logged a 5.70 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB across 30 frames through five starts in the minors. Angels pitching coach Barry Enright said last week that Detmers was "trending in the right direction" in terms of improvement when addressing how the club will fill the rotation spot of Patrick Sandoval, who has since been ruled out for the season after undergoing an internal brace procedure to repair the UCL in his pitching elbow. That said, it's unclear what the team's plans are for Detmers moving forward. The Angels rotation has had a lot of moving parts of late -- in addition to Sandoval's injury, Zach Plesac was demoted to Triple-A on Saturday, Jose Soriano (abdomen) is slated to return from the injured list Tuesday, and Davis Daniel was promoted from the minors to make his first start of the season last Thursday. In addition, Roansy Contreras was moved from the bullpen to make a spot start last Wednesday and is slated to get another turn in the rotation this coming Thursday versus Oakland.       Advice: As anticipated, Perales required a traditional Tommy John surgery to repair the damage ligament in his right elbow rather than an internal brace procedure. As a result, Perales is unlikely to be ready to pitch late in the 2025 season, whereas an internal brace procedure would have resulted in a shorter timeline that could have put him in line to pitch at some point after the All-Star break in 2025.
