    • On bench Tuesday
Vaughn is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Vaughn will be out of the lineup for the first time since dealing with a finger injury at the start of June, giving way to Gavin Sheets at first base Tuesday. After logging a seven-game hit streak, Vaughn has gone 0-for-8 in his last two games. Rotowire.com Today, 1:17 pm

    • Three more hits, including walk-off
Duran went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 7-6 walk-off win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Duran figured prominently in the come-from-behind win, in which Boston scored five times in the final two innings. Thanks to a miscommunication by Toronto's left side of the infield, his eighth-inning popup fell to the ground for a double followed by David Hamilton's two-run home run. An inning later, Duran produced the walk-off run with a single. The outfielder has multiple hits in five consecutive games (12-for-23) and has hit safely in 14 straight. • Nathaniel Lowe goes 0-for-4, fans three times
Nathaniel Lowe went 0-for-4 and struck out three times against the Brewers in Monday’s loss.

Advice: Lowe looked like a long-term answer at first base for the Rangers in 2022, but his power production fell off last year and has continued to decline this season, as he’s managed just two homers and three barrels through 228 plate appearances. His .351 OBP is nice, so it seems unlikely that the Rangers will try to upgrade this summer. However, if he fails to step it up, he’s going to be a non-tender candidate this winter. • Duran has three hits including game-winner Monday
Jarren Duran went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI against the Blue Jays on Monday.

Advice: Duran capped off the Red Sox’ comeback with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth that scored Ceddanne Rafaela. It was another big game for Duran, who had three hits including a double and also scored twice. On the season, he’s hitting .293 with an .843 OPS and 37 RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:55 pm

    • Sent back to Triple-A
The Royals optioned Velazquez to Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Advice: Velazquez was hitting just .122/.240/.171 in June and had seen his playing time dry up, so the Royals have elected to send him down to the minors with the hope that he can get on track at the plate. Expect Freddy Fermin to continue seeing an uptick in playing time with Velazquez now at Omaha. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:37 pm

    • Royals send down slumping Nelson Velázquez
Royals optioned OF Nelson Velázquez to Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: Velázquez was hitting .200/.274/.366 in 230 plate appearances. He’s cut back on the strikeouts a bit this year, but his power production has also dwindled, as his hard-hit rate had come in at 38%. Last year, he was at 48%. He’ll get another chance if he can fire in Triple-A, but with his lack of defensive value, he needs to provide a lot of offense to justify his spot. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:25 pm

    • Exiting lineup Monday
Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: Mountcastle appears to be getting a routine breather for the series opener versus the Guardians after he had started in each of Baltimore's last nine games while slashing .282/.310/.385 with seven RBI and six runs. With Mountcastle taking a seat, Ryan O'Hearn will pick up a start at first base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:43 am

    • Extends multi-hit streak
Duran went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win against Cincinnati.

Advice: Duran knocked an RBI double in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the sixth. He's produced four straight multi-hit performances, eight in his last 11 games, and 12 in 20 appearances this month. Duran is hitting .384 (33-for-86) with 12 extra-base hits and nine steals in June. His season slash line is up to .288/.352/.483 through 359 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:19 pm

    • Progressing in recovery
Manager David Bell indicated this weekend that McLain, who underwent shoulder surgery in late March, should be ready to start swinging a bat soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "He's pretty close," Bell said. When he starts swinging, there will be a step-by-step progression from dry swinging to tee work to soft toss, etc. "It's a very well-thought out progression that he'll have to take his time with."

Advice: Bell alluded to McLain being ready for action at some point in August but also noted it's a long process between now and then. The 2021 first-rounder hit 16 home runs with an .864 OPS in his rookie season last year over 403 plate appearances, so his return could potentially give the Reds, a team that ranks just 21st in OPS, some extra pop down the stretch.
