      Steele escaped with a no-decision in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates, surrendering six runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Making just his third start of the season after missing all of April with a hamstring strain, Steele served up homers to Connor Joe and Oneil Cruz in the third inning and Michael Taylor in the fourth, but he got taken off the hook for the loss thanks to a seven-run fifth by the Cubs. Steele has yet to complete five innings in an outing and threw just 74 pitches (53 strikes) Saturday, but he should begin to get stretched out more as he puts the injury further behind him. Steele will take a 4.73 ERA and 11:4 K:BB through 13.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to be a rematch with the Pirates back in Wrigley Field next week.       Advice: Steele’s start was officially cut short because of a long rain delay, but it’s unlikely he was going to continue based on how well — or more accurately, not well — he was throwing. The southpaw allowed six hits and three walks with three strikeouts, and he allowed a Pittsburgh lineup that had been awful as of late to break through. These things happen.       Advice: Fairbanks was activated from the IL earlier in the day following a nearly three-week absence with a nerve issue. Rays manager Kevin Cash put him right to work, asking him to preserve a five-run lead in the ninth. Fairbanks did so without a sweat, needing just 11 pitches to complete the 1-2-3 frame. The 30-year-old now sits on a 7.88 ERA and 11:8 K:BB over eight innings this season.       Advice: It wasn’t a save situation, but Fairbanks was given the ball with the Rays leading 7-2 heading into the ninth inning. He came on and got Anthony Rizzo to line out to first base, Gleyber Torres on a called third strike and Jose Trevino on a ground ball to short to end it — needing just 11 pitches (seven strikes) to get the job done. The right-hander joined the Rays on Friday, and he will be available for the weekend series against the Yankees. Before landing on the IL on April 22 with a nerve issue in his throwing arm, Fairbanks logged three saves in eight outings with a 9.00 ERA, 2.29 WHIP and 10:8 K:BB over seven frames.       Advice: Peralta was handed the five-game ban for throwing at the Rays' Jose Siri in an April 30 game, but he initially appealed the suspension and made his next turn through the rotation this past Sunday against the Cubs. He dropped his appeal a day later and began serving the ban, which concluded Friday. Peralta was presumably able to stay on his usual between-starts throwing regimen while he was suspended, so he shouldn't face any restrictions with his pitch count as he returns to the rubber Saturday.
