    • Loses roster spot
Bethancourt was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bethancourt has served as Miami's backup catcher this season, but he has struggled to a .466 OPS across 88 plate appearances. Ali Sanchez is expected to take over as the new second catcher on the depth chart. Rotowire.com Today, 7:02 pm
    • Clubs two homers
Brennan went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and a double Thursday against the Mariners.

Advice: Brennan cranked his first long ball off Luis Castillo in the second to tie the game, then blasted a second off Trent Thornton that provided the winning margin for the Guardians. It was the first career two-homer game for Brennan, who also sandwiched in a ground rule double in the fourth to give him three extra-base hits on the day. Brennan has caught fire of late as this was the fourth time he's had multiple hits in his last six games, giving him 10 hits in 24 at-bats (.417) with two homers, two doubles, four RBI and six runs scored during that timeframe. • Yankees option Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A
Yankees optioned RHP Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: No surprise here as the Yankees are going to bring up some extra relief depth ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Braves after getting battered for 17 runs during Thursday’s series finale against the division-rival Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 6:32 pm

    • Back to minors
Marinaccio was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Advice: The Yankees' bullpen was forced to cover 6.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Orioles and will need at least one fresh arm for their weekend series against Atlanta. Marinaccio will head back to the minors as a result, though he also surrendered four earned runs across 6.1 innings in his latest stint in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 6:26 pm

    • Mets place Luis Torrens on paternity list
Mets placed C Luis Torrens on the paternity list.

Advice: Torrens will miss New York’s upcoming three-game series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field to be with his family. It’ll be Joe Hudson getting the call to take his active roster spot during his absence. Rotoworld Today, 6:24 pm
    • Collects 22nd save
Clase tossed a perfect ninth inning Thursday, striking out one to earn the save against Seattle.

Advice: Clase had allowed earned runs in consecutive appearances on June 9 and 11 but has regained his form since, tossing his third consecutive clean outing to close out the game for the Guardians. Clase ranks first in the American League with 22 saves, ranking behind only Ryan Helsley of the Cardinals who has 24 to lead the major leagues. Through 35.1 innings this season, Clase has allowed only three earned runs for an ERA of 0.76 with a 0.62 WHIP and 36 strikeouts. Rotowire.com Today, 6:16 pm
    • Another multi-hit game
Mullins went 2-for-6 with a double, a two-run homer and three runs scored in Thursday's win over the Yankees.

Advice: Mullins capitalized on a hanging slider from Luis Gil in the top of the second and sent it into the stands in right field for a two-run shot, giving the Orioles an early 3-1 lead. The outfielder would then add a double in the ninth before coming around to score for a third time, giving him back-to-back multi-hit games. Mullins has also scored multiple runs in two straight contests, while Thursday's home run marked his first long ball since April 26 against the Athletics. Rotowire.com Today, 6:09 pm

    • Allows five earned runs in loss
Castillo (6-8) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

Advice: Castillo entered the fifth with a 3-2 lead but with two outs, a walk preceded a home run by Andres Gimenez, then another walk paved the way for a Josh Naylor double that saddled Castillo with five runs allowed and left him on the hook for the loss. Following Castillo's start on June 2, he was on a 10-game stretch of allowing no more than two earned runs. However, his last three starts have been more of a mixed bag, having allowed 12 earned runs over his last 16 innings (6.75 ERA) including five runs allowed in two of his last three starts. He'll look to put things back together during his next start, scheduled to take place next week when the Mariners travel to Tampa to take on the Rays. Rotowire.com Today, 6:08 pm

    • Struggles in no-decision
Irvin did not factor into the decision in a win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out two.

Advice: Irvin had a hard time with the Yankees' lineup for much of the afternoon, allowing runs in three of the five innings in which he appeared before being relieved by Bryan Baker. The lefty surrendered two home runs in the contest, something he hadn't done in any of his previous starts coming in, while also matching his season high with five runs allowed. Irvin had gone at least five innings in four consecutive starts prior to Thursday's game and will look to bounce back next week when the Orioles take on the Guardians in Baltimore.
