    • Returns to starting lineup
Soler (shoulder) is serving as the designated hitter and batting in the leadoff spot for Friday's game against the Rockies, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The Giants reinstated Soler from the 10-day injured list Friday, per Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com. Soler made two rehab appearances with Triple-A Sacramento, and he went 2-for-3 with one RBI in his second outing Thursday. Before landing on the IL, the 32-year-old was slashing .202/.294/.361 with five home runs and eight RBI over 136 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:39 pm

    • Jorge Soler (shoulder) returns to Giants’ lineup
Giants activated OF Jorge Soler from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 32-year-old slugger will return to the Giants’ lineup on Friday night against the Rockies, serving as their leadoff man and designated hitter. Before landing on the injured list with a right shoulder strain, Soler had been hitting a disappointing .202/.294/.361 with five long balls and only eight RBI in 34 games. • Notches three extra-base hits
Duran went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run and an additional run scored during Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Duran provided plenty of pop from the leadoff position Thursday, swatting his second homer of 2024 and generating two doubles for a second straight game. The contest was Duran's fourth game with at least three hits this season. The center fielder finished the four-game series against Tampa Bay 6-for-15 (.400) with three runs scored and five extra-base hits. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:10 pm
    • Jorge Soler (shoulder) continues rehab assignment
Jorge Soler (shoulder) will play another minor league rehab contest on Thursday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Soler went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday in his rehab assignment debut. The 32-year-old slugger checked out fine after being hit in the head by a deflection during batting practice earlier this week and should be ready to return to San Francisco’s lineup at some point in the near future. He landed on the injured list earlier this month with a right shoulder strain. Rotoworld Thursday, 5:30 pm

    • Starts rehab assignment
Soler (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in his first rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

Advice: Soler had a freak accident Tuesday when he was hit in the head by a ball while taking batting practice, but he came out of the incident no worse for wear and was cleared to begin his rehab assignment a day later. The slugger is coming back from a right shoulder strain and should be activated from the 10-day injured list in the coming days. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:09 am

    • Retreats to bench Wednesday
Velazquez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Velazquez hasn't fully regained an everyday role yet, but he started each of the last four games (two against right-handers, two against left-handers) and is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak in which he's slashed .375/.412/.625. Even so, Velazquez will find himself as the odd man out of the lineup Wednesday while the Royals give Salvador Perez a day off behind the plate while keeping his bat in the starting nine at DH. • Flips game around with homer
Velazquez went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Mariners starter Logan Gilbert was excellent until the seventh inning, and Velazquez made him pay. The homer was Velazquez's third of the year and his first since April 4. He went just 5-for-55 over a 19-game span from April 14 to May 9, but Velazquez now has a five-game hitting streak during which he's 6-for-16 (.375). Overall, he's at a .227/.292/.361 slash line with 11 RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base over 37 contests. With fellow corner outfielders MJ Melendez and Hunter Renfroe hitting .183 and .159, respectively, there's room for Velazquez to challenge them if manager Matt Quatraro opts for other players at designated hitter. • Nelson Velázquez hits three-run homer to lead K.C.
Nelson Velázquez hit a three-run homer off Logan Gilbert in the seventh to lead the Royals to a 4-2 win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

Advice: Velázquez struck out in his other three plate appearances tonight, but the homer was huge, as Gilbert was on the verge of getting through seven scoreless frames. It was just Velázquez’s third homer in 130 plate appearances this season. He had 14 in 147 plate appearances after arriving from the Cubs in a trade last summer. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:26 pm
    • Running less
Duran has attempted five steals over the last 35 games, after he opened the season with six steals in the first six games.

Advice: There are a few factors that explain the drop in attempts, per Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. Opposing teams became aware of Duran's potential impact, and the Red Sox have been more judicious after running into several outs early in the season. Additionally, manager Alex Cora asked Duran to run less given that he plays every day. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:03 pm
