    • Aaron Nola defeats Cardinals to improve to 7-2
Aaron Nola picked up his seventh victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Cardinals to two runs on three hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing two free passes. Both of the runs against him came on solo home runs — one by Brandon Crawford in the third inning and another off the bat of Nolan Arenado in the seventh. Nola generated 10 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the night — six of those on his knuckle curve — while registering a CSW of 30 percent. Now 7-2 on the season, Nola will tote an impressive 3.03 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 71/22 K/BB ratio (77 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Brewers. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

    • Taking seat Friday
Vaughn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Vaughn will get a day off Friday after appearing in seven straight contests for the White Sox. Instead, Gavin Sheets will play first base and bat cleanup. Rotowire.com Today, 1:21 pm
    • Scheduled for BP
Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Yoshida (thumb) is expected to take batting practice Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Yoshida began hitting off a tee Friday and will take his next step toward returning from a strained left thumb. A timetable for return has yet to be established, but Yoshida seems to be well on his way to reinstatement. Rotowire.com Today, 1:18 pm

    • Records first steal in loss
Crawford went 0-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in a loss to the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: The veteran shortstop was one of only two Mariners to reach base multiple times on a quiet night for the team's offense. Crawford also snagged his first steal of the campaign and has reached safely in eight of 11 games since his return from the IL, but he still carries a paltry .208/.301/.328 slash line across 143 plate appearances for the season. • Swipes fourth bag
Albies went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Atlanta's offense remains in a funk, managing only five hits and one run Thursday, but Albies has been one of the few consistent bright spots in the lineup of late. The second baseman's hit safely in six straight games, and since May 13 he's slashing .313/.375/.391. Albies still isn't providing much power -- he hasn't homered in 19 straight games and has only three long balls on the year -- but he has contributed four steals, 25 runs and 25 RBI through 46 contests. • Hitting off tee
Yoshida (thumb) began swinging off a tee Thursday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: As noted Wednesday, manager Alex Cora said Yoshida will wear a guard on the thumb to protect the area of the injury. His return from the injured list is dependent on how Yoshida feels as he progresses. Rotowire.com Today, 5:11 am

    • Belts sixth homer
Bregman went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a triple in Thursday's 4-0 win against Seattle.

Advice: Bregman broke a scoreless tie with his two-run blast in the fourth inning and came around to score Houston's final run following a triple in the sixth. It was the third multi-hit effort for the third baseman across his past five games, and he's batting .350 (7-for-20) with a pair of homers and four RBI over that stretch. Bregman could finally be getting his bat going following a rough start to the season that has his slash line still at a meager .218/.280/.360. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:36 pm

    • Logan O’Hoppe hits solo homer in loss to Yankees
Logan O’Hoppe hit a solo homer in a loss to the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: O’Hoppe gave the Angels a 1-0 lead with a solo blast off Carlos Rodón in the fourth. The second-year backstop has gone deep seven times with a decent — if a bit boring — .259/.311/.429 slash in 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:24 pm
    • Ozzie Albies reaches three teams, steals base
Ozzie Albies reached three times and stole a base in a loss Thursday to the Nationals.

Advice: Albies doubled, singled and drew a walk to complete that three-reach game. The stolen base is the fourth for the 27-year-old, and it’s possible we see him take off more often over the final 100-plus games of the season, but far from a guarantee. It’d also be nice to see more pop from a hitter that hit 33 homers last year, as he’s still stuck on three roundtrippers over 184 at-bats. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:00 pm
