      Flaherty (5-5) took the loss against the Angels on Thursday, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Flaherty got tagged for a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the second before proceeding to strike out six of the next nine batters he faced. However, the right-hander would go on to surrender two more long balls on the night as the Tigers failed to back him with anything on offense. Flaherty had allowed one run or fewer in four consecutive starts coming in, and no runs in three of his previous four. The three home runs he gave up Thursday also marked a season high.       Lively (7-4) took the loss against the Royals on Thursday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over six innings while striking out five.

      Advice: Lively was sharp for most of the contest and didn't allow a runner to reach second until the fifth inning when Nick Loftin walked, then advanced on a steal. Unfortunately for the right-hander, his luck would run out in the following frame after he surrendered back-to-back triples to open things up, which eventually led to two runs coming home for Kansas City. It marked Lively's first quality start this month and he's now allowed two or fewer runs in six of his last seven outings.       Hicks did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman against the Cubs. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Hicks' outing was marred by a rough third inning in which he hit a batter, allowed two steals and gave up a homer and triple among three hits during the three-run frame. Otherwise, Hicks faced just two batters over the minimum during the other four innings, recording at least seven strikeouts for the fourth time this season.       Jack Flaherty lost to the Angels after allowing five runs in 5 2/3 innings on Thursday.

      Advice: Flaherty surrendered three homers, matching his total from his previous six starts combined. He struck out seven and walked just one, but there was no overcoming the longball in this one. It’s the first time since Apr. 24 that he’s allowed more than three runs.     • Lively strikes out five in loss to Royals Thursday
      Ben Lively allowed two runs in six innings and took the loss against the Royals on Thursday.

      Advice: Lively gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. He continues to pitch pretty well, but the Guardians only provided one run in support of his effort. Lively has a 3.03 ERA on the season. The 32-year-old right-hander is set to face the White Sox at home next week.

    • Westburg hits two-run double in route over Rangers
      Jordan Westburg went 1-for-4 with a two-run double against the Rangers on Thursday.



      Advice: Westburg was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple, but still drove in two runs to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The 25-year-old infielder is hitting .286 with an .854 OPS and 48 RBI on the season.

      Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

      Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff.
