    • Lopez allows seven runs in loss Thursday
      Pablo Lopez allowed seven runs in four innings and took the loss against the Yankees on Thursday.

      Advice: Lopez gave up four hits, walked six and struck out four. It was a tough matchup against the Yankees, but Lopez was shaky in this one. He hit Austin Wells in the second inning and he scored on a home run by Trent Gresham. In the third inning, Lopez walked the bases loaded and all three of the runners ended up scoring. In the fourth inning, he walked Aaron Judge, who also ended up scoring. Lopez’ ERA is up to 5.45 on the season, but his xFIP is significantly lower at 3.42. The 28-year-old right-hander is set up for a bounce back matchup against the Rockies at home next week. Rotoworld Thursday, 8:20 pm
       
    • Tanner Houck whiffs nine in win over White Sox
      Tanner Houck recorded nine strikeouts and yielded two runs over seven innings on Thursday in a win over the White Sox.

      Advice: Houck delivered a dominant performance at Guaranteed Rate Field, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning before finally surrendering a leadoff single to Lenyn Sosa and a run-scoring double to Zach DeLoach later in the frame to break up the potential shutout. He got 14 runs of support on 24 hits from Boston’s lineup to allow him to cruise to an easy victory. The 27-year-old righty has emerged as a reliable fantasy contributor this season, allowing three runs or fewer in 12 of his 13 starts so far. He’ll bring a stellar 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 84/15 K/BB ratio across 85 innings (13 starts) into a home outing on Wednesday against the Phillies. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:52 pm
       
    • Takes second loss
      Assad (4-2) allowed five runs on seven hits across 5.2 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Reds. He walked two and struck out seven.

      Advice: Assad flashed his skill with the seven strikeouts, which tied for his second most in a game this year, but he was ultimately done in by a three-run Elly De La Cruz home run in the third inning. The righty still has a solid 2.74 ERA and 68 strikeouts across 69 innings this season, as he's performed well in his first extended run as a full-time starter for the Cubs.       Javier Assad allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Reds on Thursday.



      Advice: Assad gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out seven. He was replaced by Luke Little in a 4-4 game in the sixth inning and the run that scored on TJ Friedl’s RBI double was charged to Assad. The five earned runs were the most allowed in any start by Assad this year. His ERA is now 2.74, but his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.98.     • Parker goes seven innings in no-decison Thursday
      Mitchell Parker allowed two runs in seven innings and got a no-decision against the Braves on Thursday.



      Advice: Parker gave up three hits, walked none and struck out two. He had a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning, but Adam Duvall got him for a game-tying two-run home run. Parker’s ERA is 3.47 in 10 starts this year, though he’s won just one of his last eight starts. The 24-year-old left-hander is set to face the Tigers on the road next week.

      Munoz (back) played catch prior to Thursday's game in Oakland, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

      Advice: Drayer adds that Munoz was seen giving fist bumps to others afterward, which would seem to indicate things went well. Munoz had to be removed from an appearance Thursday versus the Athletics, but there's optimism he can avoid the injured list and could be available to pitch this weekend in Kansas City, per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.     • Andrés Muñoz will likely avoid an IL stint
      According to The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude, Andrés Muñoz (back) is “determined to pitch through his back strain” and will likely avoid an IL stint.

      Advice: The Mariners’ closer has been pitching through the strain since the second game of the season, which may explain why he has had some “off nights” during the 2024 season. However, he has also pitched to a 1.73 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 26 innings, so it hasn’t been impacting him too much. “I’ve been here before,” said Munoz. “I’ve felt like this before, so I know we can manage that and be ready to go. ...       Munoz (back) said Wednesday that he's feeling better and remains optimistic he'll avoid a stint on the injured list, MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The results of the right-hander's MRI are still pending, but Munoz appears confident the flareup of a lower-back issue that caused his removal from Tuesday's appearance is temporary. Munoz revealed Wednesday he had actually been dealing with his back strain since the second game of the season and has been managing it with treatment and other pain-management remedies. Consequently, the collision with the Athletics' Max Schuemann in Tuesday's game wasn't the actual culprit, as Munoz added that he had already been feeling back tightness when warming up in the bullpen that night.       Suarez allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against Toronto on Wednesday.

      Advice: Suarez remained in the rotation for a third straight start and did a good job of keeping Baltimore in the contest with five strong frames. The only damage against him came in the second inning, when he surrendered two runs -- twice as many as he had allowed in his previous two starts combined. Suarez has posted a 1.93 ERA across 14 innings since rejoining the Orioles rotation May 25.
