• Gives up three runs in rehab start
Ray (elbow) surrendered three earned runs on four hits while striking out three in 1.2 innings during his third rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Thursday.

Advice: Ray struck out eight while allowing just one baserunner in three innings between his first two rehab outings, but he hit his first bump in the road Thursday. Three of the four hits he allowed went for extra bases, including a two-run home run in the first inning. On a positive note, Ray peppered the strike zone like he had his previous two outings, spotting 24 of his 31 pitches for strikes. According to MLB.com, Ray is scheduled to make another appearance in the ACL on Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could be cleared to advance to a higher-level affiliate his next time out. The veteran southpaw is May 3, 2023 Tommy John surgery and is expected to exhaust his 30-day rehab window before potentially returning from the 60-day injured list and joining the San Francisco rotation around the All-Star break. • Blasted as bulk reliever
Suarez (1-2) took the loss against San Francisco on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk over one-plus inning.

Advice: Ben Joyce worked two frames as the opener in the contest, and Suarez was deployed next, presumably to attempt to cover multiple innings. That plan seemed to be on track when the left-hander tossed a scoreless third frame (despite giving up two hits), but Suarez then allowed five straight batters to reach -- on three doubles, a walk and a hit-by-pitch -- in the bottom of the fourth and was consequently given the hook. Suarez has given up nine runs over 3.2 innings across his past two appearances, pushing his season ERA up to an ugly 8.15. Rotowire.com Today, 11:32 am

  • Ups pitch count in side session
Cobb (hip/shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday consisting of 30-to-35 pitches, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Cobb resumed throwing off a mound Tuesday with a 25-pitch session, and he felt good enough coming out of that workout to tack on another 5-to-10 pitches to his workload a few days later. The Giants haven't indicated whether Cobb will be ready to face hitters during the upcoming week, or if he'll continue to increase the volume and intensity of his bullpen sessions. Either way, the Giants likely aren't counting on Cobb being ready to make his 2024 debut until around the All-Star break. After undergoing surgery on his left hip Oct. 31, Cobb appeared poised to beat initial projections for his recovery timeline and return from the injured list in the first or second month of the season, but those hopes were dashed after he experienced irritation in his right shoulder in April and again in May, both of which resulted in his throwing program being put on pause for multiple weeks. • Slated to throw this week
Musgrove (elbow) is expected to play catch Wednesday or Thursday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: This will be the first time Musgrove has thrown since he went on the injured list June 1 due to a bone spur in his right elbow. The right-hander acknowledged that his new slider may have contributed to the issue and indicated Saturday that he is considering how to alter either the grip or his wrist action on the pitch. Musgrove also shared that he is working to change the landing on his delivery in order to reduce the stress on his arm, saying, "I do think that that delivery, like the release point and like how it's coming out of my hand right now, now that it's aggravated, I've got to try to make some kind of adjustment to not re-aggravate it without having months of rest time and let it calm down. I gotta find a way to adjust." There's still a possibility that the veteran hurler could need surgery to remove the bone spur, but even if he avoids that scenario, he probably won't be ready to rejoin the Padres until late July. • Sim game on tap Tuesday
Snell (groin) is scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: On the injured list once again due to a left groin strain after previously missing just over a month earlier in the season with a left adductor strain, Snell looks to be tracking toward an abbreviated stint on the shelf. He completed a bullpen session in San Francisco on Saturday and will now advance to the next phase of his rehab by facing hitters. If all goes well Tuesday, Snell could avoid a rehab assignment and return to the San Francisco rotation as soon as this Saturday or Sunday in St. Louis. Rotowire.com Today, 11:10 am

  • Set to return from IL this week
Rodriguez (back) rejoined the Blue Jays following his rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday and is expected to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list later this week, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

Advice: In his sixth and final rehab outing with Buffalo, Rodriguez tossed 79 pitches over three innings, striking out seven while giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks. Per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, Rodriguez's fastball averaged 93 miles per hour -- just one tick behind his season-long average over four starts with Toronto -- and topped out at 96. He'll likely step in as the Blue Jays' new No. 5 starter during this weekend's series in Cleveland, though manager John Schneider could choose to deploy Rodriguez as part of a tandem with Bowden Francis. In three of his previous four starts prior to landing on the IL on April 30 with thoracic spine inflammation, Rodriguez had been followed by Francis out of the bullpen and covered between three and four innings on each occasion. • Shut down with injury at Triple-A
Triple-A Buffalo placed Danner on its 7-day injured list Tuesday with an unspecified injury.

Advice: Danner is a member of the Blue Jays' 40-man roster, but he's pitched exclusively with Buffalo this season. Over 22.2 innings out of the Triple-A bullpen, Danner has turned in a 3.18 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB. Rotowire.com Today, 10:55 am

  • Making rehab start in ACL
Wacha (foot) will make a rehab start Monday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Sunday that Wacha may only need the one outing in the minors before returning from the 15-day injured list and making his next start with Kansas City this coming weekend in Arlington versus the Rangers. Wacha threw a three-inning simulated game Thursday, so he could be stretched out for close to a typical starter's workload if he's able to tack on another inning during Monday's outing. The right-hander has been on the injured list since June 2 with a non-displaced left foot fracture. Rotowire.com Today, 9:40 am
  • José Suarez gives up five runs to take loss
José Suarez gave up five runs while getting just three outs Sunday to take a loss to the Giants.

Advice: Suarez took over in the third after Ben Joyce pitched two scoreless innings and actually opened up with a scoreless frame. Alas, he got no one out in the fourth, and he and Hunter Strickland combined to give up nine runs, quickly turning this one into a laugher. Suarez has an 8.15 ERA in 35 1/3 innings this season. It wouldn’t be any sort of surprise to see him DFA’d in the coming days. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:17 pm
