• Heads back to minors
The Blue Jays optioned Little to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Advice: He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Alek Manoah (shoulder), who was activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Nationals. After being called up from Triple-A on April 25, Little made three appearances out of the Toronto bullpen, giving up four earned runs over 3.1 innings. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago
  • Blue Jays option Brendon Little to Buffalo
Blue Jays optioned LHP Brendon Little to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Little is pushed off the roster with Alek Manoah coming off the injured list for his season debut. The 27-year-old will likely get another chance to help the Toronto bullpen at some point this summer. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago
  • Whitlock (oblique) ‘feels good’ after bullpen
Garrett Whitlock told reporters Sunday that he felt good after his bullpen session Saturday.

Advice: Whitlock will now take at least a couple days off before his next bullpen session, which has yet to be scheduled. The right-hander will likely need to make one or two more before a potential rehab assignment. There’s still no clear timetable as to when any of this can happen, however. • Sent back to Triple-A

  • Takes extra-inning loss
Fernandez (0-1) allowed an unearned run on two hits in one inning, taking the extra-inning loss versus the White Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Fernandez gave up an RBI single to Tommy Pham, and that ended up being the difference in Saturday's contest. Over his last five outings, Fernandez has covered 6.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) with a 9:2 K:BB. He's been used as a low-leverage reliever so far, but the rookie right-hander has been solid with a 2.70 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB over 13.1 innings in that role. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
  • Zack Thompson could be option for Cards on Friday
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol told reporters that Zack Thompson could be an option for St. Louis on Friday against the Brewers.

Advice: Marmol told reporters that Thompson was not in consideration for Sunday’s start as they want the 26-year-old to continue to work on things. Matthew Liberatore is getting the start Sunday, but depending on how things go, St. Louis may not have a choice but to go with Thompson over the weekend. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago

  • Shifts to Triple-A's 60-day IL
Triple-A Round Rock transferred Church (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Advice: Church doesn't look as though he'll be ready to return to action for Round Rock until around mid-June while he recovers from a right shoulder strain. The 23-year-old reliever was originally placed on Round Rock's 7-day IL on April 18 due to the injury. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago

  • Jose Urquidy (forearm) has live BP moved to Tuesday
Jose Urquidy (forearm) had his live bullpen session pushed back to Tuesday.

Advice: Urquidy was scheduled to make that live BP session Sunday, but he’ll get a couple extra days before returning. The right-hander was able to throw 30 pitches in a similar session Wednesday, and he likely will up that total a smidgen once it takes place. Urquidy could be back with the Astros and their injury-riddled rotation by the end of May. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago

  • Throws in XST
Sewald (oblique) threw an inning in an extended spring training game Saturday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sewald came out of the session feeling good, and if he continues to respond to activity the same way, the Diamondbacks plan to activate him for the series opener against the Reds on Tuesday. He's expected to resume his role as the team's closer after saving 13 of 15 opportunities following his acquisition from Seattle at the trade deadline in 2023. Rotowire.com Today, 8:48 am
