  • Camilo Doval picks up sixth save against Red Sox
    Camilo Doval struck out a batter in a scoreless inning of work while picking up a save Thursday against the Red Sox.

    Advice: Doval is now up to six saves on the season. The right-hander didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout, and he pounded the zone with 11-of-14 pitches going for strikes. Doval has had some shaky moments in 2024, but the right-hander remains locked into a closing role for a team that should provide plenty of opportunites. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago
     
  • Josh Winckowski surrenders one run over 4 1/3
    Josh Winckowski held the Giants to one run while going 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday.

    Advice: He walked two and wasn’t able to pick up a strikeout. It was far from a dominant start for Winckowski, but the 25-year-old was mostly effective even without much swing-and-miss. The only run came on a solo homer from Mike Yastrzemski in the third. Winckowski has been able to get the job done in his last two starts, but he has yet to go deep enough to qualify for a victory.   • Edwin Díaz hurls two scoreless innings vs. Cubs
    Edwin Díaz hurled two scoreless innings against the Cubs on Thursday.

    Advice: It comes in a non-save situation, but fantasy managers who roster Díaz get to see their ERA drop with the scoreless frames. He also picked up a pair of strikeouts, and that improves his K/BB to 19/4 over 12 2/3 innings. There really hasn’t been much — if any — rust to shake off for Díaz after missing all of 2023.   • Steven Matz (back) unlikely to make next start
    Steven Matz (back) is unlikely to make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the White Sox.

    Advice: The interesting wrinkle here is that the Cardinals decision to bump up Kyle Gibson and Miles Mikolas creates an opening on Tuesday against the Mets. The most likely candidate to fill that void would be pitching prospect Sem Robberse, who would be taking the ball on regular rest, and has been excellent this season for Triple-A Memphis.   • Peter Lambert can’t get out of fourth against MIA
    Peter Lambert went 3 1/3 innings while allowing four runs in a no-decision against the Marlins on Thursday.

    Advice: Lambert was fortunate to get a no-decision with the Rockies providing just enough offensive support to keep him from the loss. The 27-year-old allowed five hits with three walks against three strikeouts in a middling — at best — effort against a mediocre Miami lineup.   • Clears waivers
    Pinto cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

    Advice: Pinto lost his spot on the 40-man roster Sunday after turning in a 10.97 ERA and 2.25 WHIP across 10.2 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander will now head to Triple-A in an effort to get back on track, but a return to the majors this year isn't likely, barring a drastic turnaround.   • Shaky vs. Marlins
    Lambert did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Marlins, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

    Advice: The Marlins got to Lambert quickly, scoring twice in the opening inning before tacking on runs in the third and the fourth. The 27-year-old Lambert's struggled in his two starts this year, allowing 10 runs in 6.1 innings. He's fared better out of the bullpen, however, pinching to a 1.88 ERA over 14.1 innings in relief. Still, the right-hander figures to remain in the rotation while Kyle Freeland (elbow) is sidelined. Lambert's currently scheduled for a home start against the Giants in his next outing.     Twins optioned RHP Caleb Boushley to Triple-A St. Paul.

    White Sox sent RHP Deivi García outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

    Advice: García was universally-regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball just a few years ago when he was with the Yankees, but it’s never really come together for him at the highest level.
