    Advice: Carpenter will play in one final rehab game with Triple-A Memphis on Friday and, assuming all goes well, will then return to the big club. Out since early April with a right oblique strain, Carpenter has gone 4-for-17 with two homers in his first five rehab contests.     Bazardo made his season debut in Thursday's loss to the Twins, allowing an earned run on a hit and a walk over two innings. He struck out four.

    Advice: Manager Scott Servais found the ideal low-leverage setting for Bazardo's first taste of game action after a long stint on the IL due to a right rotator cuff strain, deploying the right-hander in the fifth and sixth innings of a game in which the Mariners already faced an eight-run deficit. Bazardo located 22 of his 35 pitches for strikes during his pair of frames, with the one run he surrendered coming via a Manuel Margot groundout.     Raley went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

    Advice: Raley provided the only meaningful offense for the Mariners in the 11-1 loss, driving in Mitch Haniger with a second-inning knock. Raley has picked it up nicely at the plate since late April, now having forged a .375 average and .923 OPS across the 26 plate appearances covering his last 10 games. However, his strikeout rate during that stretch is still a bloated 30.8 percent, an albatross on Raley's offensive profile that has been a constant presence throughout his time in the majors.   • Rehab moving to Double-A
    The Yankees transferred Peraza's (shoulder) rehab assignment from Single-A Tampa to Double-A Somerset on Friday.

    Advice: Peraza went 2-for-5 with a homer, two walks and three runs in two games at Single-A and will now move his rehab to the Double-A level. The 23-year-old originally suffered the shoulder injury in late February and was shut down in early March, so he likely still needs a significant number of at-bats in the minors before being cleared to come off the injured list. The third baseman has now hit safely in four consecutive games and in six of eight games to open this month, tallying four RBI and four runs scored over that latter stretch.     Advice: The Cubs had previously listed Taillon as their probable starter for Friday, so the late change perhaps hints that the right-hander may be tending to an injury. The decision to have Assad take the hill for the series opener wouldn't seem to be the result of any dissatisfaction with Taillon's performance, as the 32-year-old has opened his second season with the Cubs with a 3-0 record, 1.13 ERA and 0.88 WHIP over 24 innings. Justin Steele will take the hill on four days' rest to start Saturday, while the Cubs are listing their starter for Sunday's series finale as "TBA." More clarity on the Cubs' plans for Sunday -- as well as when Taillon might next pitch -- should come prior to Friday's contest, when manager Craig Counsell meets with the media.
