• Earns ninth save
Sewald earned a save against the Phillies on Friday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Advice: Tasked with preserving a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning, Sewald needed just 11 pitches to secure his ninth save of the year. Sewald has not allowed a run since his first outing of the season May 7 and is a perfect 9-for-9 in save chances. He now owns a sparkling 0.66 ERA, 0.51 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings in 2024. • Paul Sewald shuts down Phillies for ninth save
Paul Sewald pitched a clean ninth inning on Friday to earn the save.

Advice: There must be something about the city of Philadelphia or Citizens Bank itself that just calms Sewald because he did on Friday what he did four times in the last NLCS: shut the Phillies down. David Dahl did put a ball to the warning track, but it was to no avail. Sewald has not allowed a run in 14 straight appearances this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:20 pm
  • Earns 13th save
Foley struck out one over 1.1 innings to earn the save in a 2-1 win over the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Foley was summoned to protect a 2-1 lead with two outs in the eighth inning and induced a groundout from Andrew Vaughn. He hit Paul DeJong with a pitch in the ninth but ended the game with a double play to earn his 13th save of the season. Foley has not allowed an earned run in seven June appearances and is now 13-for-15 in save chances with a 2.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB over 27 innings in 2024. • Luis Ortiz allows six runs in four innings
Luis Ortiz followed opener Cameron Mlodzinski and got hit hard by the Rays allowing six runs and 10 hits in four innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.

Advice: Ortiz pitched better than his line, which isn’t saying much. The Rays made a habit of squeaking singles through the infield and Jose Lowe burned him for two loud home runs. Even with this disaster, Ortiz’s ERA ticked up to just 3.45. His fastball and sinker each sit 97 MPH, his slider is nasty, and his cutter is coming along. Ortiz remains risky but could prove valuable in the second half. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:30 pm

  • Ryan Pepiot unravels in fourth inning
Ryan Pepiot allowed two earned runs in 3 1/3 on Friday against the Pirates. He walked four and struck out three.

Advice: Pepiot started strong with three punch outs in his first three innings and held a big lead. He looked to be in complete control until a lead-off walk to Rowdy Tellez in the bottom of the fourth and wouldn’t make it through the inning. His line could’ve been worse as he left the game with the bases loaded and one out, but Colin Poche got out of the jam with a double-play ball. It seemed he didn’t have a feel for his slider in this one as he threw just three. That pitch has been a difference-maker for him this season and it would be a concern if he took it out of his repertoire going forward. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:29 pm

  • Dodgers activate and option Kyle Hurt on Friday
Dodgers activated RHP Kyle Hurt from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The 26-year-old hurler had already been pitching at Triple-A OKC while on a rehab assignment, but he’ll continue to build up there as he continues his recovery from right shoulder inflammation. In order to free up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster, Max Muncy was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:08 pm

  • Activated from IL, optioned
The Dodgers activated Hurt (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Hurt was originally placed on the 15-day injured list April 20 with right shoulder inflammation, but he was transferred to the 60-day IL one week later. He began his rehab assignment with Oklahoma City on June 6, and over his eight minor-league appearances, he's given up five runs on seven hits and 10 walks while striking out 16 over nine frames. To make room for Hurt on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred Max Muncy (oblique) to the 60-day injured list Friday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:59 pm

  • Jason Foley closes out White Sox on Friday night
Jason Foley recorded the final four outs against the White Sox on Friday night, protecting a one-run advantage to earn his 13th save of the season.

Advice: Foley came on with the tying run on base with two outs in the eighth inning and got Andrew Vaughn to ground out to second base. He then returned for the ninth where he plunked Paul DeJong with one out in the inning to bring the go-ahead run to the plate again. Andrew Benintendi then lined out to center field and DeJong forgot how many outs there were, easily getting doubled off of first base to end the ballgame. On the season, Foley now sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 22/9 K/BB ratio (26 1/3 innings) to go along with 13 saves in 15 opportunities. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:56 pm

  • Continuing recovery at Arizona
Bradford (rib/back) is throwing a bullpen session Friday and then will be sent to the Rangers' Arizona Complex League affiliate, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Bradford has been sidelined since April with a lower back strain and a stress fracture in his rib. However, he's been making steady progression in June and will continue his recovery process in Arizona. While it's unclear when Bradford will start facing hitters, a return shortly after the All-Star break seems feasible. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:16 pm
