• Optioned to Triple-A
The Red Sox optioned Westbrook to Triple-A Worcester on Monday.

Advice: Westbrook was a great story in finally reaching the majors following an 11-year professional career, but he wasn't going to be playing much with Romy Gonzalez back from the injured list. The 29-year-old went 4-for-18 with a homer during his first-ever stint in the big leagues. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago

  • Activated and in Monday's lineup
The Red Sox activated Gonzalez (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday.

Advice: Gonzalez has missed most of June with a hamstring issue but is ready to roll following a brief rehab assignment. He is starting at second base and batting sixth Monday against Blue Jays left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Day-to-day, no structural damage
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Garcia is considered day-to-day after an MRI on his right elbow revealed no structural damage but showed "ulnar nerve symptoms," Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Advice: According to Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star, the Blue Jays are describing the right elbow soreness that forced Garcia out of a save chance in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Guardians is being viewed as a "stinger." The club isn't too concerned about the injury, though Wilner notes that if Garcia hasn't made a full recovery by Friday, the Blue Jays won't hesitate to place him on the injured list. Schneider intimated that the Blue Jays will likely stay away from Garcia for at least Monday's game versus the Red Sox, with the skipper naming Chad Green as the team's interim closer for however long Garcia is unavailable. Before leaving early Sunday, Garcia had converted three consecutive save chances to solidify himself as the Blue Jays' preferred ninth-inning man while two-time All-Star closer Jordan Romano (elbow) remains on the IL. • Red Sox activate Romy Gonzalez from 10-day IL
Red Sox activated INF/OF Romy Gonzalez from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Gonzalez missed two weeks with a hamstring strain. He’ll mostly play second base against lefties for now. Once Vaughn Grissom returns, the Red Sox figure to demote either Gonzalez or Enmanuel Valdez. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago

  • Red Sox send down Jamie Westbrook
Red Sox optioned INF/OF Jamie Westbrook to Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Westbrook should be at least a 26th man in the majors, but the Red Sox currently prefer Romy Gonzalez’s defensive versatility. Westbrook went 4-for-18 with a homer and a double during his two weeks with the Red Sox. His average exit velocity on his 13 balls in play was an impressive 92.8 mph. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Next man up for saves
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Green will serve as the team's closer while Yimi Garcia (elbow) is day-to-day, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Advice: Garcia was pulled from a save chance in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Guardians after experiencing right elbow soreness. The Blue Jays ended up turning to Nate Pearson to finish out the contest, but Green had been used earlier in the game and seems to be first in line to operate as Toronto's closer for any length of time that Garcia might miss. Garcia underwent an MRI on Monday that cleared him of any structural damage to his elbow, but he's still dealing with what Schneider described as "ulnar nerve symptoms" and may require a stint on the injured list. Toronto's preferred closer, Jordan Romano (elbow), is already on the IL, and if Garcia joins him, Green may have a clear runway to save chances until one of the two injured pitchers is activated. Green, who owns a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP over 15.1 innings this season, makes for a strong speculative pickup in leagues where he's still available. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago

  • Yariel Rodríguez likely to make weekend start
Yariel Rodríguez, on the IL with thoracic spine inflammation, has joined the Blue Jays and could start this weekend versus the Guardians.

Advice: The Jays considered starting Rodríguez last weekend, but they had him pitch in Triple-A instead and he allowed two runs over three innings, striking out seven in the process. His six rehab starts for Buffalo covered a total of 14 innings in which he walked 10 and struck out 23. He might be able to help the Jays, but unless they use an opener in front of him, it’s hard to see how he’d be any sort of candidate for wins. Rotoworld 47 minutes ago

  • Bo Bichette (calf) works out prior to game
Bo Bichette is again out of Monday’s lineup with calf tightness, but he might be available off the bench.

Advice: That depends on how his on-field workout goes prior to the game. The Jays have Isiah Kiner-Falefa at short and Ernie Clement at third tonight. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago

  • MRI returns clean
Carroll will rejoin the Diamondbacks in Washington for the start of their series against the Nationals on Tuesday after he underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed no significant damage to his left side, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: The Diamondbacks ordered up the MRI for Carroll after he experienced a "pull feeling" while making a throw in the seventh inning of Sunday's 12-5 win over the White Sox. He left the game shortly thereafter, though he was in positive spirits when describing his injury after the game. The MRI seems to have validated Carroll's optimism, and though he looks set to avoid a stint on the injured list and will rejoin the team, the Diamondbacks could still hold him out of the lineup for Tuesday's series opener if he's still dealing with some discomfort. Fantasy managers in leagues with weekly lineup decisions will likely want to keep close tabs on Carroll's status leading up to the 6:45 p.m. ET start time of Tuesday's contest.
