• Notches three extra-base hits
Duran went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run and an additional run scored during Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Duran provided plenty of pop from the leadoff position Thursday, swatting his second homer of 2024 and generating two doubles for a second straight game. The contest was Duran's fourth game with at least three hits this season. The center fielder will finish the four-game series against Tampa Bay 6-for-15 (.400) with three runs scored and five extra-base hits. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:10 pm

  • Homers in Wednesday's loss
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Goldschmidt is on a five-game hitting streak, having gone 7-for-23 (.304) with two homers and four RBI in that span. The burst of offense has doubled his homer total for the year to four, and he's up to 15 RBI, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases and three doubles while slashing .206/.291/.300 across 41 contests. Goldschmidt sat out a game just prior to his current streak, so it appears the mental reset is paying off in the short term, though his counting stats are unlikely to improve much if the team around him doesn't collectively start hitting better. • Nabs seventh steal
Springer went 1-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Back in the leadoff spot, Springer reached base multiple times for the first time in 12 games, something he last accomplished April 26. It's been a tough season so far for the veteran outfielder, and through 166 plate appearances Springer is slashing a sluggish .201/.277/.295 with three homers, seven steals, six RBI and 14 runs. • Blasts leadoff homer
Westburg went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Westburg made manager Brandon Hyde look smart -- this was Westburg's first big-league game at leadoff, and he hit a homer in his first at-bat. The infielder is 11-for-32 (.344) over his last eight games, adding six extra-base hits and seven RBI in that span. For the season, he's slashing .301/.354/.534 with seven homers, 28 RBI, 22 runs scored and five stolen bases through 159 plate appearances. Westburg may get more looks at leadoff versus southpaws, but he should be expected to bat lower in the lineup versus right-handers, as he has yet to above sixth in the order against same-handed pitchers this season. • Keeps rolling Wednesday
Gray (2-1) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three over 6.1 shutout innings to earn the win Wednesday versus the Guardians.

Advice: Gray has strung together four straight quality starts after posting just one over his first six outings this season. During his hot streak, the right-hander has allowed just four runs while posting a 20:3 K:BB over 27.1 innings. Gray is at a 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 52:14 K:BB through 52 innings across 10 appearances (nine starts) in 2024. He'll look to keep it up in his next start, tentatively projected to come on the road against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:46 pm

  • Paul Goldschmidt slugs fourth homer Wednesday
Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the fourth, Goldschmidt ended the shutout in the sixth inning, putting the Cardinals on the board with a solo homer off Griffin Canning. The 36-year-old first baseman is slashing .206/.291/.300 with four homers, 20 runs scored, 15 RBI, and two steals across 181 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:22 pm

  • Javier Assad cruises through six to beat Braves
Javier Assad continued his strong season with six scoreless innings in the Cubs’ 7-1 victory in Atlanta. He struck out seven, allowed four hits, and just one walk earning the win.

Advice: Unfazed by the Braves’ daunting lineup, Assad was in complete control in this one. Only one runner reached scoring position and he lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.49, good for the fourth-lowest among all starting pitchers. He’s lined up for a rematch with the Braves on Monday. • Jon Gray tosses 6 1/3 shutout in win vs. Guardians
Jon Gray tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts in a win over the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: Gray’s outstanding run continued on Wednesday with another stellar outing. He held the Guardians scoreless over 6 1/3 frames, stranding four hits and two walks while striking out three batters. After giving up five runs in his first start, Gray has not allowed more than two runs in each of his last eight outings. The 32-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 52/14 K/BB ratio across 52 innings. Gray will take on the Phillies on the road next Wednesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:38 pm

  • Continues to shine as starter
Assad (4-0) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against Atlanta. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.

Advice: Assad has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in all nine of his starts this season, which has allowed him to compile a stellar 1.49 ERA across 48.1 innings. The young righty was effective as a long reliever last year and it was uncertain in spring training if he'd be able to grab a rotation spot, but at this point, it would seem unlikely that he's moved back to the bullpen given his strong play. Assad will look to keep rolling as a starter in his next scheduled outing, which is penciled in for Tuesday against this same Atlanta squad. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:24 pm
