• Cruises to 14th save
Clase earned a save against the Mets on Monday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Advice: Clase inherited a two-run lead when he entered in the ninth frame and made quick work of New York, needing just 12 pitches to set down the side in order. The right-hander has yielded just one earned run all season, giving him a sparkling 0.37 ERA through 24.1 frames. Clase has posted an outstanding 24:2 K:BB and is tied for first in the majors with 14 saves. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:57 pm
  • Homers in loss
Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Gurriel snapped a 26-game homer drought with his eighth-inning blast. The outfielder has gone 11-for-45 (.244) over his last 12 contests, adding just five RBI and five runs scored in that span. He's at a .236/.284/.385 slash line with six homers, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored and two stolen bases over 44 contests this season. He's never posted a batting average lower than .261 or an OPS lower than .743 over a full season, so there's room for Gurriel to turn things around in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:32 pm
  • Back in closer role Monday
Suarez picked up a save against Atlanta in the first game of a doubleheader Monday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Advice: For most of the contest it seemed unlikely that Suarez would be deployed, as Atlanta got out to an early lead and was ahead 5-0 through four innings. However, San Diego fought back and took a one-run lead in the eighth, giving Suarez a chance to close things out in the ninth. He did so easily, needing just seven pitches to set down the side in order. Suarez had been used in the eighth inning to face the heart of Atlanta's order his previous time on the mound, but there's little doubt that he's San Diego's primary closer. The right-hander has registered a minuscule 0.44 ERA and 0.64 WHIP along with an 18:4 K:BB while racking up 13 saves in 13 chances on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:01 pm
  • Emmanuel Clase lowers ERA to 0.37 on Monday
Emmanuel Clase tossed a perfect ninth inning on Monday against the Mets to record his league-leading 14th save of the season.

Advice: Clase was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and needed just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to end the contest. The 26-year-old elite stopper has converted a major league-leading 14 of 17 save opportunities to go along with a microscopic 0.37 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 24/2 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 innings (25 appearances). He hasn’t allowed an earned run since April 14. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:03 pm
  • Officially activated
Swanson (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list Monday night, per MLB's transaction log.

Advice: Swanson was expected to be activated prior to Tuesday's game against Atlanta, and the team has elected to make the move official a bit earlier than anticipated despite not having a game Monday. Miles Mastrobuoni and Pete Crow-Armstrong were optioned to Triple-A Iowa in corresponding moves, making room for the upcoming promotion of Luis Vazquez. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:06 pm

  • Cubs activated Dansby Swanson from I.L.
Cubs activated SS Dansby Swanson from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The Cubs don’t play today, so it’s kind of surprising that the move is coming now. However, MLB.com’s transactions page says it’s official. Still unofficial is the Luis Vazquez callup, which is expected to happen before the game Tuesday. Swanson should start at shortstop Tuesday after missing two weeks with a sprained knee. • Jorge Polanco (hamstring) available off bench
Jorge Polanco, again out of the lineup with his hamstring tightness, will be available off the bench Monday, according to manager Scott Servais.

Advice: It’s his sixth straight day out of the lineup, which is a lot for “tightness.” Luis Urías continues to fill in for him, with Josh Rojas moving from third to second. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:14 pm

  • Available off bench
Mariners manager Scott Servais said that Polanco (hamstring) will be available off the bench Monday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Polanco is missing a sixth straight start Monday, but he's progressed enough with his right hamstring issue that he could enter mid-game, if needed. It would appear he'll have a shot to be back in the lineup Tuesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:14 pm

  • Robert Suarez now 13-for-13 saving games
Robert Suarez pitched a perfect ninth with a one-run lead for a save against the Braves in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader.

Advice: It’s Suarez’s 16th straight scoreless appearances. He had been stuck on 12 saves for the last 12 days, but even so, he’s tied for first in the majors in that category. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:38 pm
