• Jesús Luzardo strikes out seven, earns win
Jesús Luzardo completed six innings in the Marlins 8-0 win over the Mets on Friday. He struck out seven, walked none, and allowed seven hits.

Advice: Luzardo has been fantastic since returning from the IL, striking out 15 in 11 ⅔ innings across two starts putting a rough start to the season behind him. However, be advised his fastball averaged just 94.7 MPH Friday. That was his lowest mark in a single start this season and after he’s already spent time on the shelf with elbow tightness. • Adley Rutschman scores twice in rout of Mariners
Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a pair of runs scored as the Orioles routed the Mariners on Friday evening at Camden Yards.

Advice: Rutschman singled and scored during the Orioles’ five-run uprising off of Bryce Miller in the first inning. The 26-year-old backstop then plated Gunnar Henderson with an RBI double off of Kirby Snead in the seventh inning and raced around to score on an RBI double off the bat of Austin Hays. He continues to perform as one of the top offensive catchers in the game — slashing .318/.353/.514 with nine homers, 28 RBI and one stolen base. Rotoworld Today, 6:38 pm
  • Grabs third save
Hoffman earned the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Nationals, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: After Jose Alvarado finished the eighth inning, the Phillies turned to Hoffman in the ninth. The right-hander worked around Joey Gallo's one-out double, closing out the 4-2 victory for his third save of the season -- his first since April 30. Hoffman's been sharp this year, pitching to a 0.90 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB over 20 innings. While Alvarado is still likely Philly's preferred ninth-inning option, Hoffman should see the occasional save chance depending on matchups. Rotowire.com Today, 6:26 pm

  • Jeff Hoffman slams door on Nationals in ninth
Jeff Hoffman slammed the door on the Nationals in the ninth inning on Friday evening, protecting a two-run lead to earn his third save of the season.

Advice: Jose Alvarado came on to get the final two outs in the eighth inning of this one, leaving Hoffman to clean things up in the ninth. He did allow a one-out double to Joey Gallo that brought the tying run to the dish, but was able to get Ildemaro Vargas on a pop up to second base and Jesse Winker on a fly ball to right field to end it. Hoffman has been outstanding out of the Phillies’ bullpen this season, registering a 0.90 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 27/7 K/BB ratio across 19 1/3 innings. Rotoworld Today, 6:00 pm

  • Yordan Alvarez getting a night off on Friday
Yordan Alvarez is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Brewers.

Advice: It’s a rare and well-deserved night off for the 26-year-old slugger, who will still probably appear off the bench in a critical spot on Friday night. Yainer Diaz will function as the team’s designated hitter and will bat fifth against Brewers’ right-hander Freddy Peralta. Rotoworld Today, 2:46 pm

  • Receiving rest day
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Alvarez has a .646 OPS through 15 games in May and went 1-for-11 with five strikeouts over the past three contests, and he'll sit Friday after starting the first 44 games of the campaign. Yainer Diaz will serve as the designated hitter while Victor Caratini starts behind the plate. Rotowire.com Today, 1:42 pm

  • Notches three extra-base hits
Duran went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run and an additional run scored during Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Duran provided plenty of pop from the leadoff position Thursday, swatting his second homer of 2024 and generating two doubles for a second straight game. The contest was Duran's fourth game with at least three hits this season. The center fielder finished the four-game series against Tampa Bay 6-for-15 (.400) with three runs scored and five extra-base hits. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:10 pm

  • Homers in Wednesday's loss
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Goldschmidt is on a five-game hitting streak, having gone 7-for-23 (.304) with two homers and four RBI in that span. The burst of offense has doubled his homer total for the year to four, and he's up to 15 RBI, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases and three doubles while slashing .206/.291/.300 across 41 contests. Goldschmidt sat out a game just prior to his current streak, so it appears the mental reset is paying off in the short term, though his counting stats are unlikely to improve much if the team around him doesn't collectively start hitting better. • Nabs seventh steal
Springer went 1-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Back in the leadoff spot, Springer reached base multiple times for the first time in 12 games, something he last accomplished April 26. It's been a tough season so far for the veteran outfielder, and through 166 plate appearances Springer is slashing a sluggish .201/.277/.295 with three homers, seven steals, six RBI and 14 runs.
