    Sandoval (elbow) underwent successful surgery to repair the UCL in his left elbow Wednesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Sandoval was diagnosed with a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow after departing early from his start against the Dodgers on June 21. The left-hander is expected to miss at least one year of action due to the injury.     Soriano (abdomen) is expected to start one of the Angels' contests in Oakland during a three-game series that begins July 2, per MLB.com.

    Advice: Soriano landed on the injured list June 20 with an infection in his abdomen, and the team believes he will be ready to return after the minimum 15-day stay. Since the move to the injured list was retroactive to June 17, that means the right-hander can be activated as soon as July 2.     Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Mata (shoulder) felt good after his rehab start Thursday, and the right-hander will start again for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

    Advice: In his first rehab outing for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Mata allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two over 2.2 frames. He opened the season on the injured list with a right hamstring strain, but he has been dealing with lat and shoulder soreness since May.
