    • Pete Fairbanks slams door on Nationals in ninth
Pete Fairbanks slammed the door on the Nationals in the ninth inning on Friday night, protecting a two-run lead to earn his 13th save of the season.

Advice: Fairbanks had to work a bit in the ninth inning of this one, as he issued a one-out walk to Keibert Ruiz to bring the tying run to the plate. He battled back though, getting Eddie Rosario on a line drive to right field and Nick Senzel on a ground ball to first base to end it. In all, he needed 22 pitches (13 strikes) to get the job done. On the season, Fairbanks now sports a 3.14 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 30/13 K/BB ratio over 28 innings to go along with 13 saves and two victories. Rotoworld Today, 6:26 pm
    • Jeimer Candelario (knee) expected to return Sunday
Reds’ manager David Bell told reporters on Friday that Jeimer Candelario (knee) is expected to return to the starting lineup on Sunday.

Advice: Candelario has missed each of the team’s last three games due to a knee issue and he’ll sit on Saturday as well. The team doesn’t want him to miss a full 10 days though and they’re very hopeful that he’ll be able to return to action on Sunday. Fantasy mangers may still want to sit him through the weekend though to be on the safe side if alternative options are available. Rotoworld Today, 3:24 pm

    • Devin Williams (back) to throw bullpen Saturday
Devin Williams (back) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler felt great after his first bullpen session, so he’ll continue to ramp up as long as he’s feeling good. He’s also tentatively scheduled to throw his first live batting practice on July 9, assuming that he doesn’t suffer any setbacks along the way. If things go according to plan, he could be ready to return to the Brewers’ bullpen immediately following the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 3:22 pm

    • Aiming for Sunday return
Candelario (hamstring) is on track to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Candelario hasn't played since Tuesday as he tends to hamstring tendinitis. However, he's set to make his return for the series finale Sunday and will avoid a stint on the IL. In his stead, Noelvi Marte should continue to start at third base while Spencer Steer handles first base work. Rotowire.com Today, 2:50 pm

    • Resumes throwing program
Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Schmidt (lat) has resumed his throwing program, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Schmidt took the first step in his throwing program Monday when he started playing catch, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Schmidt was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 18 with a right lat strain, and before the injury he was 5-3 over 11 starts with a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB over 60.2 innings. • Clarke Schmidt (lat) resumed playing catch
Clarke Schmidt (lat) began playing catch on Monday as he continues to work his way back from a right lat strain.

Advice: He’s still a long way away from being ready for game action, but it’s nice to see the 28-year-old hurler take a small step in the right direction after being shut down from throwing altogether for nearly a month. Even in the most optimistic of scenarios, it’s unlikely that we see Schmidt back with the Yankees before the start of August. Rotoworld Today, 2:24 pm

    • Held out again Friday
Candelario (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game in St. Louis.

Advice: It's the third straight day on the bench for Candelario, who has been dealing with hamstring tendinitis since last week. There are no indications to this point that he might require a trip to the 10-day injured list, so consider him day-to-day for now. Noelvi Marte and Spencer Steer are again handling the infield corners for the Reds on Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 1:12 pm

    • Jeimer Candelario (knee) held out again on Friday
Jeimer Candelario (knee) was held out of the Reds’ starting lineup once again for Friday night’s tilt against the Cardinals.

Advice: It’s the third straight game that the 30-year-old slugger has missed due to the knee issue. There haven’t been any indications yet that the injury will require a trip to the injured list, but if it lingers through the weekend the Reds may be forced to make a move. Noelvi Marte will start at the hot corner on Friday night while Spencer Steer mans first base for the Reds. Rotoworld Today, 1:09 pm

    • Another bullpen coming
Williams threw 20 pitches during a bullpen session Wednesday and is scheduled for another 20-pitch session over the weekend, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Williams utilized his full arsenal during Wednesday's session and is on track to throw off the mound again this weekend. Additionally, Williams is scheduled to throw live batting practice July 9. Regardless, he should be back with the Brewers sometime in July. Rotowire.com Today, 12:47 pm
