• Swipes another bag
Merrill went 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Merrill struck out in his first two at-bats before reaching on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning and coming around to score soon thereafter. He added a single and stolen base in the eighth but was left stranded. Merrill has notched three thefts over his past three games and ranks second on San Diego with seven steals on the season. • Takes seat against lefty
Pederson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Pederson will head to the bench while southpaw Andrew Abbott toes the rubber for Cincinnati. Blaze Alexander will fill in for Pederson as Arizona's designated hitter. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

The Brewers recalled Roller from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Advice: It's the first major-league promotion for Roller, who recently returned from an undisclosed injury at Nashville, where he's hit .250/.276/.357 in 14 games this season. The 27-year-old will back up at all three outfield spots and could see a little action versus lefties. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Mets officially call up Mark Vientos
Mets recalled 3B Mark Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: The Mets probably should have swapped Brett Baty out here and given Vientos a real chance at third base. Instead, those two apparently will split time for now. Vientos went 3-for-7 with a homer in his earlier stint with the Mets this season. He was hitting .284/.376/.500 with six homers in 133 plate appearances for Norfolk. He might eventually be a mixed-league option if he becomes an everyday guy. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Heading to minors
The Brewers optioned Dunn to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Advice: Though he served as Milwaukee's designated hitter in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Pirates, Dunn's playing time had been relatively sparse since mid-April with Joey Ortiz overtaking him as the preferred option at third base. As a left-handed hitter, Dunn wasn't a fit for the Brewers as a short-side platoon player, either, so he'll head to Nashville to get some everyday playing time. Outfielder Chris Roller was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Mets add Joey Lucchesi for Wednesday start
Mets recalled LHP Joey Lucchesi from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Lucchesi will be making his season debut after amassing a 2.58 ERA and a 28/16 K/BB ratio over 38 1/3 innings in seven starts for Norfolk. He’ll serve as the spot starter against the Phillies today and then probably get returned to Triple-A. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

  • Mets recall reliever Grant Hartwig
Mets recalled RHP Grant Hartwig from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Hartwig will rejoin the pen. He allowed two runs in three innings during an earlier stint with the team. Overall, he has a 4.93 ERA in 38 1/3 innings the last two years. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
  • Mets designate Joey Wendle for assignment
Mets designated INF Joey Wendle for assignment.

Advice: It’s a little scary that the Mets have chosen to forgo carrying a legitimate backup middle infielder, but insurance there is all Wendle seemed to have to offer at this point. He was hitting .222/.243/.250 in 37 plate appearances for the Mets. Last year, he came in at .212/.248/.306 in 318 plate appearances for the Marlins. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Nabs win Tuesday
Scott (2-4) picked up the win in Tuesday's extra-inning victory over the Tigers, giving up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out two.

Advice: Rather than being held back for a possible save situation in extra innings on the road, Scott got the call in the ninth with the score tied 0-0 and was able to escape the jam he created. The southpaw hasn't allowed an earned run in 10 straight appearances, but Scott's been far from sharp during that time, posting an 11:7 K:BB in 9.1 innings. That's still an improvement on his early-season performance, and his 2.12 ERA on the year isn't supported by his 1.53 WHIP or 18:17 K:BB in 17 frames. Scott is still the Marlins' closer and has converted four of five save chances, but A.J. Puk got the save in the 10th inning Tuesday and could be a threat to take the job now that he's moved back into the bullpen. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
