    • Goes yard for second straight game
Winker went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Monday's win over the Twins.

Advice: He led off the fourth inning by working the count full against Pablo Lopez before crushing a fastball over the fence in center field. Winker has left the yard in back-to-back games and has four hits in his last three contests, but that comes on the heels of an 0-for-21 stretch. On the season, the 30-year-old is slashing .232/.346/.411 with six homers, five steals, 21 RBI and 22 runs in 44 games, but Winker may need to stay hot if he wants to hang onto a significant role in the OF/DH mix with Lane Thomas (knee) closing in on his return and top prospect James Wood (.393/.493/.689 in May for Triple-A Rochester) pounding on the door for a promotion. • Cade Cavalli (elbow) throws 2 /23 scoreless in FCL
Cade Cavalli (elbow) struck out five over 2 2/3 scoreless innings during a rehab start Monday in the Florida Complex League.

Advice: Cavalli allowed one hit and one walk. The right-hander has made steady progress as of late from Tommy John surgery, and he was up to 97 mph while throwing 25-of-44 pitches for strikes. Cavalli will likely need to make a couple more rehab starts at the minimum, but he could be back in the rotation for the Nationals by the end of June. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

    • Nabs 15th steal
Young went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Monday's win over the Twins.

Advice: The 24-year-old center fielder's ability to flip the lineup over from the nine hole was a key part of the Nationals' 12-run eruption Monday. Young has hit safely in five straight games and is up to 15 steals in 17 attempts on the season, but his overall numbers have sagged in May -- he's slashing .208/.304/.271 through 56 plate appearances. • Sharp in first rehab start
Cavalli (elbow) allowed one hit and one walk in 2.2 scoreless innings for the Nationals' Florida Complex League team Monday. He struck out five.

Advice: Seeing his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2023, Cavalli simply overmatched FCL hitters over 44 pitches. The 25-year-old right-hander touched 97 mph with his fastball, per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, and the one hit off him came from MLB veteran Jose Abreu. Washington will now have 30 days to decide whether Cavalli is ready to join the big-league rotation in mid-June, but if the front office decided he needs more time to complete his recovery, he could be optioned to Triple-A Rochester. Either way, Cavalli should be back on the 26-man roster some time this summer. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

    • Atlanta adds Daysbel Hernandez from Triple-A
Atlanta recalled RHP Daysbel Hernandez from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: Hernandez, 27, was pitching well for Gwinnett with a 1.65 ERA and 22/9 K/BB over 12 appearances and 16 1/3 innings. He’ll take the roster spot of Ray Kerr, with Kerr heading to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago
    • Starting spot in jeopardy
Baty went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Guardians, and he's at risk of losing his starting job at third base to Mark Vientos, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Since a two-homer game May 3, Baty is slashing an anemic .125/.186/.150 with a 43.2 percent strikeout rate. Vientos has mainly been used as a short-side platoon option since his most recent promotion, but he's gone 4-for-14 with two doubles in four games. Baty hasn't let his struggles impact his defense, and that might be the only thing keeping him in the starting nine at the moment. With the Mets scrambling to find offense, though, they might decide they can live with Vientos' inferior glove at the hot corner if he can produce at the plate. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago
    • Swipes bag in win
Lopez went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's extra-inning win over the Brewers.

Advice: Making another start at second base, Lopez continued a strong stretch that has seen him slash .306/.350/.528 over the last 11 games with two homers, a steal, four runs and eight RBI. The 25-year-old has been forming an effective double-play duo with Vidal Brujan of late, but with Tim Anderson (back) poised to come off the IL, it's not clear how the Marlins will divvy up playing time at the middle infield spots between the three players. Lopez has played well enough to remain in a significant role, however. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago

    • Hammers out four hits Monday
Bichette went 4-for-4 with three doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Batting cleanup against righty Erick Fedde, Bichette scorched the ball all afternoon, and his final two doubles left his bat with exit velocities of 110.4 mph and 105.8 mph. After a tough start to 2024, the shortstop is catching fire at the plate, recording three multi-hit performances in his last six games and slashing .368/.429/.553 over his last 10 contests. • Launches eighth homer
Varsho went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: The 27-year-old outfielder crushed a Erick Fedde changeup over the right-field fence in the second inning for his eighth long ball of the season. Varsho is batting just .182 (10-for-55) in May, but half his hits have gone for extra bases (three doubles, two homers) and he's stayed productive with two steals, nine runs and nine RBI in 14 games.
