    • Throwing live BP Monday
Gallen (hamstring) is expected to throw a live batting practice session Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It was reported last week that Gallen would throw a simulated game early this week, but it looks like he'll throw a live BP session instead. If all goes well, the right-hander could be activated in time for the series against Oakland that begins Friday. Gallen has thrown one sim game already followed by a pair of bullpen sessions. • Dominates Giants
Gray (9-4) picked up the win Sunday against San Francisco, allowing one run on one hit with no walks across seven innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: Gray took a perfect game into the seventh inning before Patrick Bailey launched a solo home run with two outs. Although the Cardinals' bullpen gave up two more runs, Gray was able to claim his ninth win of 2024, his most wins in a season since 2019. The 34-year-old has completed at least seven innings in three consecutive starts and owns a 2.95 ERA along with an 11.1 K/9 across 83.1 innings. He's on track to face the Reds during a four-game series late next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:45 pm

    • Goes deep again Sunday
Guerrero went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Guardians.

Advice: Guerrero launched a two-run home run in the top of first inning off Triston McKenzie, giving Toronto an early lead. He later singled and came around to score on a base knock by Addison Barger in the top of the fifth. The homer was his ninth of the season and second of the three-game series with Cleveland. Guerrero has now notched at least one hit in six of his last eight contests, batting .294 with two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored over that stretch. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:00 pm
    • Progressing in recovery
Manager David Bell indicated this weekend that McLain, who underwent shoulder surgery in late March, should be ready to start swinging a bat soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "He's pretty close," Bell said. When he starts swinging, there will be a step-by-step progression from dry swinging to tee work to soft toss, etc. "It's a very well-thought out progression that he'll have to take his time with."

Advice: Bell alluded to McLain being ready for action at some point in August but also noted it's a long process between now and then. The 2021 first-rounder hit 16 home runs with an .864 OPS in his rookie season last year over 403 plate appearances, so his return could potentially give the Reds, a team that ranks just 21st in OPS, some extra pop down the stretch. • Doubles twice, drives in three
Pena went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win against the Orioles.

Advice: Pena hit an RBI double in the first inning before knocking a two-run double in the sixth. He'd been stuck in a 6-for-49 (.122) slump since his last multi-hit game June 5. Pena's homerless drought has now reached 31 games, and he's attempted only one steal in his last 15 contests. Still, he bumped his season slash line up to .280/.316/.382 through 314 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:36 pm

    • Pops 15th home run
Greene went 2-for-4 with a walk and a three-run home run in Sunday's 11-2 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Greene hit his 15th home run of the season in the second inning, a three-run shot that pushed him to 40 RBI this year. The 23-year-old outfielder has gone deep five times this month in 20 games, and a monster finish to the campaign could be in order if he keeps this up. Greene has already set a new career high with the 15 homers, and he needs three more RBI to set a new career best in that category. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:08 pm

    • Sonny Gray electric in win over Giants
Sonny Gray allowed one run on one hit in seven innings in a win over the Giants on Sunday.

Advice: Gray also struck out eight and walked none while posting a 30 percent whiff rate and 39 percent CSW. He only made one real mistake on the day, allowing a solo home run to Patrick Bailey in the seventh inning. The Giants averaged just 81.6 mph on all balls put in play during the game, and Gray now has a 2.81 ERA heading into a start against the Reds at home next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:09 pm

    • Kodai Senga (shoulder) throws live bullpen session
Kodai Senga (shoulder) threw 22 pitches during a successful live bullpen session on Sunday.

Advice: It’s the first time that the 31-year-old hurler has faced live hitters since early May. He’ll repeat the process again at the end of next week, and if all goes well he could finally be cleared to begin what should be a lengthy minor league rehab assignment. If he avoids any further setbacks, he could be ready to join the Mets’ rotation following the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:34 pm

    • Sidelined through All-Star break
Toro (hamstring) will be out at least through the All-Star break, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Toro landed on the injured list Saturday due to a Grade 1 strain of his right hamstring, and the A's have already determined that his absence will extend into the second half of the season. Tyler Nevin figures to see the majority of reps at third base until Toro returns, though Aledmys Diaz and Armando Alvarez may also pick up a few starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:06 pm
