    • Could return as second baseman
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated over the weekend that he may consider having Betts (wrist) play primarily at second base upon his return, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: The consideration to shift Betts back to second base from shortstop is primarily due to the impressive performance of Miguel Rojas, who has played excellent defense, as usual, while adding a surprisingly potent bat (he's slashing .291/.337/.437 over 164 plate appearances). The versatile Betts is no stranger to second base; he played a career-high 70 games at the position last year after beginning the campaign in the outfield. Betts was then asked to move to shortstop ahead of 2024 despite never having logged time there in the majors prior to 2023, and he's performed adequately defensively despite a few hiccups. It remains to be seen if the Dodgers will ultimately pursue having Betts and Rojas form their middle infield for most games, and Roberts has time to think through that scenario since Betts remains several weeks away from returning. He threw and ran Tuesday, per the Associated Press, but hasn't yet swung a bat. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

    • Not in starting nine
Arcia (tooth) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Arcia is dealing with an abscessed tooth and will be held out of the starting lineup for a second straight game. Though it's unclear exactly when he'll be available to start, Arcia had the issue addressed Tuesday, so it's likely he'll be cleared in the coming days. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

    • Out of St. Louis lineup
Carpenter is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh.

Advice: The Cardinals are giving Brandon Crawford a start in the designated hitter spot. Carpenter had started the first game of the series against the Pirates, going 1-for-5 with a run scored. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago

    • On bench again
Hamilton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Hamilton is absent from the starting nine for the third time in the last four games, with Wednesday's contest being the first against a left-handed pitcher. Romy Gonzalez will play second base and Ceddanne Rafaela will play shortstop. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Back with big club
The Reds recalled Dunn from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: The Reds wanted more of a pure outfielder on the bench rather than Levi Jordan, who can play the outfield but who is an infielder by trade. Dunn went 1-for-10 at the dish in an earlier stint in the majors. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

    • On bench Wednesday
Abreu is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Miami.

Advice: Abreu will get the day off Wednesday after making six straight starts in right field. Rob Refsnyder, Jarren Duran and Tyler O'Neill will fill the outfield from left to right. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Sent back to minors
The Reds optioned Jordan to Triple-A Louisville, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Jordan received two starts and 11 plate appearances during his brief time in the majors, picking up one hit. He's being replaced on the roster by Blake Dunn. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

    • Receiving breather
DeJong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: The 30-year-old will get the night off Wednesday after making 11 consecutive starts at shortstop. Nicky Lopez will fill in for DeJong at short while Danny Mendick plays second base. DeJong owns a .731 OPS with 15 home runs across 290 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

    • Absent from lineup
Rice is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Reds.

Advice: With southpaw Andrew Abbott on the hill for the Reds, the Yankees are going with right-handed hitting J.D. Davis at first base. The left-handed hitting Rice has now started one of four games versus lefties since Davis was acquired. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago
