    • Taylor Ward (knee) expects to play Tuesday
Taylor Ward, out Monday after banging his knee during Sunday’s game, said he’ll likely be back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game.

Advice: Kevin Pillar is playing left field tonight against the Rangers. Rotoworld Monday, 2:59 pm

    • Expected back in action Tuesday
Ward (knee) is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Rangers, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Ward banged up his knee when he crashed into the outfield wall at Wrigley Field during Sunday's loss to the Cubs. He is feeling much better Monday and fully expects to return to the lineup Tuesday. Kevin Pillar will occupy left field Monday in Ward's stead. Rotowire.com Monday, 2:44 pm

    • Joshua Palacios hits first homer since callup
Joshua Palacios delivered a two-run shot for his first homer of the season Monday against the Mets.

Advice: Palacios delivered 10 homers while batting .239/.279/.413 in 264 plate appearances for the Pirates last season, but he spent the first three months of this year in the minors before being recalled Thursday. He’s since gone 3-for-9 with five walks, which is a little surprising since he totaled just 12 walks in his 91 games last year. The Pirates will continue to give him a fair amount of playing time in right field versus righties. Rotoworld Monday, 1:19 pm
    • First to 20-20 mark
Ohtani went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases in a loss to the Brewers on Sunday.

Advice: Ohtani made the most of his lone hit, swiping both second and third base after singling in the third inning. The latter theft gave the slugger 20 steals on the campaign, and with 28 long balls, he is the league's first player to reach the 20-20 mark this season. This is the third time over the past four campaigns that Ohtani has achieved the feat. Rotowire.com Monday, 12:34 pm

    • Likely to lose playing time
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Carpenter will hit the bench for a sixth consecutive game, with the Cardinals having faced left-handed pitchers in each of the last five contests. Though he had been seeing steady opportunities against right-handed pitching lately, the 38-year-old Carpenter will likely find himself on the bench more frequently after the Cardinals reinstated Lars Nootbaar (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday. With Nootbaar expected to take back an everyday role in right field, Alec Burleson should replace Carpenter as the Cardinals' primary designated hitter. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:03 am

    • Report: Angels unlikely to trade Taylor Ward
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, “the Angles likely will hang onto” Taylor Ward and starters Tyler Anderson and Griffin Canning at the trade deadline.

Advice: All three players are still under team control through at least 2025 and are likely to remain with the Angels “unless they receive overwhelming offers.” Anderson and Canning staying put will keep their spots in a starting rotation secure but also keep their chances of wins low, while Ward staying in Los Angeles will also help guarantee everyday playing time but continue to see him hit in a weak lineup. • Rosenthal: Rangers could trade Scherzer, others
According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers could look to trade away players on expiring contracts at the deadline.

Advice: The Rangers have been playing better of late, but they are 7 1/2 games back in the race for the third American League wild card with playoff odds hovering around 10 percent, so Rosenthal believes the team will be open to trading players on expiring contracts like Max Scherzer, Michael Lorenzen, Andrew Heaney, David Robertson, and Kirby Yates. With Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom also inching closer to second-half returns, the Rangers could deal from their starting rotation and not lose much. Rosenthal also suggests that the Rangers could listen on deals for Nathaniel Lowe, Leody Taveras, and “perhaps even Adolis García, all of whom are performing below expectations and under club control at rising salaries for two more seasons.” Trades would drastically impact the fantasy value of most of these players, which makes the Rangers perhaps the most interesting team at the trade deadline. • Shohei Ohtani swipes two bags in loss to Brewers
Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-5 and stole a pair of bases as the Dodgers fell to the Brewers on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Advice: Ohtani smacked a one-out single off of Dallas Keuchel in the third inning then proceeded to swipe second and third base before getting stranded there. He has now eclipsed the 20-steal plateau for the third time in his career and has already matched his total from the 2023 season. The 30-year-old superstar is slashing .314/.399/.637 with 28 homers, 65 RBI and 20 stolen bases through his first 88 games with the Dodgers. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:08 pm
