  • Considers himself ahead of schedule
    Rendon (hamstring) resumed baseball activities this week and said Wednesday that he thinks he's ahead of schedule in progressing toward a return, per MLB.com.

    Advice: Rendon has been out since April 20 due to a left hamstring strain, but he recently began ramping up his activity by throwing and taking swings in a batting cage. The third baseman will next progress to jogging Saturday, which will be a significant test of the injured hamstring. While Rendon remains weeks away from a return, he indicated that he considers himself ahead of schedule, explaining, "I'm trying to push it each and every day.   • Blasts 12th home run
    Morel went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Reds.

    Advice: Morel can be streaky with his power production, but he appears to be locked in right now, as he has two home runs across his last three games and three bombs in his last seven contests. The surge has pushed him up to 12 long balls for the season. Morel popped 26 home runs last year, and he certainly could reach or surpass that figure in 2024 if he stays healthy.   • Gets rest during blowout
    Devers was pinch-hit for in the seventh inning of Thursday's game against the White Sox, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

    Christopher Morel went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run against the Reds on Thursday.

    Advice: The home run was Morel’s 12th of the year. He’s hitting just .205 on the season, but his .212 BABIP is well below his career .287 BABIP. His 21 percent strikeout percentage is much improved from his career 29 percent strikeout percentage.   • De La Cruz blasts 11th home run in win Thursday
    Elly De La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run against the Cubs on Thursday.

  • Yoán Moncada targeting second-half return
    Yoán Moncada (adductor) is likely to return following next month’s All-Star break.

    Advice: White Sox manager Pedro Grifol told reporters Thursday that Moncada hasn’t suffered a setback, but his rehabilitation from a high-grade adductor strain is progressing slower than anticipated.   • Tigers outright Buddy Kennedy to Triple-A
    Tigers sent INF Buddy Kennedy outright to Triple-A Toledo.

    Advice: It’s a tad surprising the Tigers were able to sneak Kennedy through waivers, but he’ll presumably head back to Triple-A Toledo to wait for another opportunity at the highest level. The 25-year-old infielder has morphed into a modern-era Quad-A hitter over the last few years, putting up stellar on-base numbers at the Triple-A level, while struggling to produce at the highest level in several opportunities.   • Manny Machado out Thursday with hip flexor strain
    Manny Machado (hip) is absent from the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks.

    Advice: No surprise here after Machado suffered a mild right hip flexor strain during Wednesday’s series finale against the Angels. The 31-year-old third baseman will presumably require a couple days off to rest and recover, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.     Nick Madrigal has been diagnosed with a fractured left hand.
