• Christopher Morel swats three-run homer in loss
Christopher Morel connected on a three-run homer Thursday in an extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Advice: Morel extended the Cubs’ lead to 4-0 in the fifth with a three-run blast off Adrian Houser. The second-year infielder has gone deep five times, and he’s now up to 17 RBI over Chicago’s 32 games. It’s nice to see some offensive success again, as Morel has scuffled as of late to drop his line to .209/.287/.383. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Francisco Lindor hits game-winning double vs. Cubs
Francisco Lindor drove in four runs off the bench including a game-winning two-run double in the 10th to give the Mets a 7-6 win over the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: Lindor didn’t start Thursday’s game, but he finished it literally and figuratively. The shortstop doubled home a pair of runs in the sixth, and in the 10th, he turned a 6-5 deficit into a 7-6 victory when he plated a pair with a two-bagger in the 10th to give the Mets the win. It’s one of the best games of the season for Lindor, as even with the strong outing he’s slashing a disappointing .207/.287/.380 in the first month-plus. It goes without saying that Lindor is going to be better in the summer months. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Adrian Houser allows four over five vs. Cubs
Adrian Houser allowed four runs in five innings of work in a no-decision Thursday against the Cubs.

Advice: Houser gave up four hits, and he also issued four free passes with two strikeouts before leaving. The right-hander was a smidgen better then his awful start Saturday against the Cardinals (six runs in 4 1/3 innings), but it’s still an ineffective outing that sees his ERA sit at an unideal 8.16 ERA. He’ll have a chance to lower that number in a rematch with St. Louis next week. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Ben Brown allows two runs, walks five against Mets
Ben Brown allowed two runs with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings while not factoring into the decision Thursday against the Mets.

Advice: Brown did miss some bats Thursday, but he also caused a lot of batters not to swing with five walks. The right-hander was still able to keep the Mets off the board until the fifth, but that inning unraveled with a pair coming across before he exited. Brown has shown flashes of brilliance in his rookie campaign, and even this mediocre outing had moments that suggested a bright future. He’s back on the bump against the Padres next week. • Travis Jankowski plates two in win over Nationals
Travis Jankowski smacked a two-run single on Thursday, lifting the Rangers to a 6-0 victory over the Nationals.

Advice: Jankowski came off the bench and padded Texas’ late lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning. The 32-year-old veteran outfielder has played sparingly this season due to the Rangers’ tremendous position player depth, but he remains an extremely valuable bench component for the defending World Series champions. • Mitchell Parker allows three runs in loss to Rangers
Mitchell Parker allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Rangers.

Advice: Parker got into trouble in the third inning when he gave up a trio of run-scoring hits, which accounted for all of the damage against him. He struck out five and only issued a pair of walks. The 24-year-old rookie right-hander has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four consecutive outings since getting the call to the majors back on April 15, but he’s struggled to work deep into contests. He’ll bring a respectable 2.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 19/4 K/BB ratio across 21 1/3 innings (four starts) into a tough home outing on Wednesday against the Orioles. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

  • Cristian Javier to make rehab start this weekend
Cristian Javier (neck) will begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.

Advice: It’s an extremely encouraging development for Houston’s injury-plagued rotation as Javier appears close to returning after landing on the injured list back on April 21 with neck discomfort. The 27-year-old righty might be ready to return after just one rehab outing, but nothing official yet. Rotoworld Today, 2:03 pm

  • Strikes out nine
Cabrera didn't factor into Thursday's decision against the Rockies, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks while striking out nine over four innings.

Advice: Three of the Rockies' four runs against Cabrera came on a Jacob Stallings homer in the second inning. Cabrera had the strikeout pitch working Thursday, though his command remained inconsistent, as he'd eventually need 91 pitches to record 12 outs. Cabrera's now been held to fewer than five innings in consecutive starts. His ERA is up to 6.05 with a 1.50 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB through his first four starts (19.1 innings). Cabrera's currently lined up for a tough road matchup with the Dodgers in his next outing. Rotowire.com Today, 1:44 pm

  • Surgery not ruled out
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Yoshida might require surgery on his injured left thumb, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Yoshida was placed on the injured list Wednesday with what has been termed a left thumb strain. Cora noted Thursday that the medical staff is still gathering information regarding the injury before a decision is made on next steps for Yoshida, but it appears surgery is one of the possibilities. More clarity on the designated hitter's status should be available by the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 8:34 am
