    • Scratched Friday
Pederson was scratched from Arizona's lineup ahead of Friday's game versus the Tigers.

Advice: It's unclear why Pederson was taken out of the lineup, but the D-backs should offer more information in the near future. In the meantime, Randal Grichuk will serve as Arizona's DH while Jake McCarthy fills the opening in right field, batting seventh. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

    • Jorge Polanco (hamstring) could need IL stint
Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains out of the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

Advice: There had been an expectation that the 30-year-old second baseman would be ready to return on Friday night after three straight days off, but alas it was not to be. The Mariners are now saying that he may miss the entire series against the Orioles and could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. Stay tuned. Josh Rojas will slide over and cover second base in his absence on Friday while Luis Urias starts at the hot corner. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

    • Mitch Garver returns to Mariners’ lineup Friday
Mitch Garver (back) returned to the Mariners’ starting lineup on Friday night.

Advice: The 33-year-old slugger sat out each of the team’s last two games due to back spasms. He’s feeling much improved now though and ready to give it a go. He’ll serve as the team’s designated hitter and bat third against Orioles’ southpaw John Means on Friday evening in Baltimore. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

    • Homer, three RBI in win
Triolo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Triolo opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run shot off Kyle Hendricks before driving in a third run with a base hit in the fourth. It's the first multi-hit game since May 3 for Triolo -- he'd gone just 2-for-30 in his prior 10 contests. The 26-year-old infielder is now slashing .201/.291/.257 with two homers, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and three steals through 41 games this season. With Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) set to resume baseball activities early next week, Triolo could soon be headed back to a bench role. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Yordan Alvarez getting a night off on Friday
Yordan Alvarez is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Brewers.

Advice: It’s a rare and well-deserved night off for the 26-year-old slugger, who will still probably appear off the bench in a critical spot on Friday night. Yainer Diaz will function as the team’s designated hitter and will bat fifth against Brewers’ right-hander Freddy Peralta. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

    • Dodgers to promote Miguel Vargas from Triple-A
Francys Romero reports that the Dodgers plan to promote Miguel Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: The 24-year-old has kind of forced their hand with his hot-hitting at the Triple-A Level — slashing .295/.437/.583 with eight homers, 38 RBI and eight stolen bases (in 14 attempts) over 181 plate appearances in 39 games. He played almost exclusively in left field during his time at Triple-A this season, so it’ll be interesting to see how he’s utilized by the Dodgers this time around. With Jason Heyward also expected to be activated from the injured list, the Dodgers will have to clear some room on their active roster on Friday. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Falls to Pittsburgh
Hendricks (0-4) took the loss Friday against the Pirates, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Hendricks started the day well, allowing just one hit through his first two scoreless innings. However, Jared Triolo would snap a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the third before the Pirates tacked on three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, sticking Hendrick's with his fourth loss. It's been a brutal start to the year for the veteran right-hander -- Hendricks has now allowed five or more runs in five of his first seven outings. His ERA is up to 10.57 with a 1.99 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB across 30.2 innings this year. Things won't get any easier for Hendricks in his next start -- he's' currently in line for a tough home matchup with Atlanta. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

    • Outrighted to Charlotte
Ortega cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Ortega held the right to decline his outright assignment and elect free agency, but he will instead remain within the White Sox organization and look to turn things around in the minors. The 33-year-old went 1-for-14 during his stint with the Sox, but he has slashed .241/.378/.431 with 14 RBI through 75 plate appearances with Charlotte. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago

    • Mitch Spence to start for Athletics on Friday
Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that Mitch Spence will start on Friday night against the Royals in Kansas City.

Advice: Kotsay noted that for now, it’s just a one-start thing, but that if Spence pitches well he could secure a spot in the team’s rotation. The 26-year-old Rule-5 pick has registered a 4.26 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 22/7 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings in 11 appearances with the A’s this season. He threw 72 pitches against the Marlins on May 5, so he may be able to work deep enough into Friday’s outing to earn a victory if the A’s offense provides enough support. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
