      Advice: Assad flashed his skill with the seven strikeouts, which tied for his second most in a game this year, but he was ultimately done in by a three-run Elly De La Cruz home run in the third inning. The righty still has a solid 2.74 ERA and 68 strikeouts across 69 innings this season, as he's performed well in his first extended run as a full-time starter for the Cubs.       Javier Assad allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Reds on Thursday.



      Advice: Assad gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out seven. He was replaced by Luke Little in a 4-4 game in the sixth inning and the run that scored on TJ Friedl’s RBI double was charged to Assad. The five earned runs were the most allowed in any start by Assad this year. His ERA is now 2.74, but his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.98.       Advice: Miller was strong, aside from a 102.5 mph pitch that Julio Rodriguez took out of the yard in the ninth inning. This was Miller's first outing since his blown save versus the Rays last Thursday. The flamethrower has been tagged for eight runs (five earned) over his last 7.1 innings, but he has three saves and a blown save in that span.       Advice: Miller was asked to preserve the A’s two-run lead in the eighth inning with two runners on and one out. He induced a fly out and a groundout to keep the Mariners scoreless.       Ryan Helsley struck out two in a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Astros to record his major league-leading 20th save of the season.

      Advice: There haven’t been a ton of save opportunities recently for Helsley in recent weeks, with just five chances over the last two weeks. However, he’s converted 20 of his 21 save opportunities this season to accompany a sparkling 2.33 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 29/6 K/BB ratio across 27 innings (27 appearances).       The Red Sox are looking at going with a bullpen game on Sunday and pushing Kutter Crawford’s next start back to Tuesday.

      Advice: Bad news for those hoping Crawford would bounce back against the White Sox. He’ll instead face the Phillies if the Red Sox follow through on this, though at least he’d be doing so on six days’ rest instead of four.     • Kutter Crawford has another rough start in loss
      Kutter Crawford allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits in six innings in a loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

      Advice: Crawford has now allowed 15 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings in his last three starts. However, those starts were also against the Brewers, Braves, and Orioles. He was never going to carry over the 1.75 ERA he had over his first eight starts, but he’s also not pitching as poorly of late as those earned runs totals would indicate. He induced 12 whiffs on 51 swings for a 24 percent whiff rate on the day and lines up for a much better start against the White Sox this weekend.
