    Advice: Ahmed went 3-for-7 with a stolen base and a run scored while starting at shortstop for the Giants in both of the team's games since he returned from the injured list Friday. Both of those starts came against left-handed pitchers, making it unclear if he's the team's preferred option at the position or if the lefty-hitting Brett Wisely will operate in the strong side of a platoon.     Advice: Padres manager Mike Shildt was also tossed from the game after leaving the dugout to argue with the home-plate umpire. Machado slammed his bat in frustration with the called third strike but didn't make any contact with the umpire, so he shouldn't be subject to any further punishment from MLB.   • Shut down with lat injury
    The Dodgers placed Grove on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right lat injury, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

    Steven Metz (back) threw three scoreless innings and struck out five in a rehab start for Double-A Springfield.

    Advice: That’s his third rehab start as he works his way back from the back injury. He didn’t allow a baserunner and showed off his swing-and-miss stuff; albeit against Double-A hitters.     The Dodgers recalled Feyereisen from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.

    Advice: Feyereisen and right-hander Michael Petersen will join the Los Angeles bullpen for the series finale versus the Royals, providing the club with some much-needed fresh arms in the bullpen after five Dodgers relievers covered the final seven innings of Saturday's 7-2 loss.     Advice: With Masyn Winn getting a day out of the field and serving as the Cardinals' designated hitter, Crawford entered the starting nine at shortstop for just the 12th time all season. He got off to a strong start to the day at the plate before he was pulled midway through his eighth-inning plate appearance, when he appeared to grab at his hamstring following a big swing.
