    • Cole: velocity dip versus Mets intentional
      Gerrit Cole said after Tuesday’s start that he’s healthy and that he intentionally dialed back his velocity tonight after a long first inning.

      Advice: Cole topped out at 98.9 mph in the first tonight, but he was often throwing 92-93 mph in the second. He did pick it up some in the end, throwing his final fastball 95.3 mph, but it was an awfully discouraging performance. It’s good to know he doesn’t think he’s hurt, though.     • Cole allows four home runs in loss
      Gerrit Cole allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday.

      Advice: There’s a fair amount to be concerned about here. The Yankees ace walked four and struck out nobody on the day. His fastball sat 95.4 mph on the day which was down 1.3 mph from his first start. He hit 98 mph in the first inning but by the third inning, he threw only four fastballs and just one was over 94 mph. Home runs hit by Mark Vientos and Harrison Bader were on fastballs that were 91.5 and 93.2 mph. Given that Cole’s elbow injury to start the year involved some nerve issues, there’s a concern that there remains a lingering impact on Cole’s health or performance. It could also just be one bad start, but this is the second outing of his career that he did not strike out any batters and the other was on May 20, 2016, so it’s certainly a performance we want to take note of.     • Tosses seven innings
      Bassitt allowed two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out two during the loss to Boston.

      Advice: Aside from Rafael Devers' two-run shot in the fourth inning, Bassitt had little trouble during the quality start. Bassitt was in line for the win before Toronto's bullpen was tagged with five runs. After producing a 5.03 over his first nine starts, he owns a strong 1.67 ERA over his last seven outings. Bassitt's season ERA sits at 3.45 alongside an 83:35 K:BB. He is currently projected to face the Yankees at home this weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:29 pm
       
    • Bassitt allows two runs in seven innings Monday
      Chris Bassitt allowed two runs in seven innings and got a no-decision against the Red Sox on Monday.



      Advice: Bassitt gave up five hits, walked one and struck out two. He was in line for his seventh win of the season before the Toronto bullpen blew a four-run lead in the eighth inning. Bassitt allowed a two-run home run to Rafael Devers, but was otherwise very successful keeping the Boston offense at bay. He’s completed at least seven innings in two of his last four starts and completed at least six innings in three of his last four starts. Bassitt’s ERA is now 3.45 on the season. The 35-year-old right-hander is set to face the Yankees at home this weekend.

    • Blake Snell (groin) to make second rehab start
      Blake Snell, combing back from a groin strain, will make another rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

      Advice: Snell struggled in his first outing, giving up two earned runs and walking three in 1 2/3 innings. If he’s better Friday, he could be activated next time through the rotation. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:33 pm

    • Next rehab start coming Friday
      Snell (groin) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday and make another rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

      Advice: Snell showed signs of rust during his first rehab appearance with Sacramento on Sunday, and as expected, he'll make at least one more start in the minors before the club considers activating him from the 15-day injured list. The southpaw fired 51 pitches Sunday and will continue to build toward a full workload in his upcoming appearance as he makes his way back from a left groin strain. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:10 pm

    • Collects seventh hold
      Garrett gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning Sunday to record his seventh hold of the season in a win over the Cubs.

      Advice: Edwin Diaz came on the ninth but got ejected for a foreign substance, and Jake Diekman wound up getting a one-out save as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza scrambled to fill in for his closer. Diaz is facing a 10-game suspension, and based on Mendoza's bullpen usage while the right-hander was out injured, Garrett should be viewed as the favorite to handle any save chances during that time. Diekman, Adam Ottavino, Drew Smith and even potentially Dedniel Nunez could all be factors in the ninth as well, however. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:11 am
       
    • Dominant in debut
      Scherzer (1-0) picked up the win Sunday, allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts across five scoreless innings against Kansas City.

      Advice: Scherzer showed no signs of rust after missing the first 12 weeks of the season recovering from offseason back surgery and battling thumb and forearm injuries, retiring the first 13 batters he faced and picking up the victory. Though he completed five innings, Scherzer was pulled after 57 pitches and should continue to have his workload monitored during his next few starts. Still, the three-time Cy Young winner looked like himself Sunday and is on track to face the Orioles at Camden Yards next weekend. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:36 pm

      McKenzie tossed three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out six batters in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: McKenzie was challenged early versus Toronto, giving up a two-run home run to Vladimir Guerrero in the top of the first inning. He later gave up a leadoff homer to Spencer Horwitz in the third, which was ultimately his final inning on the mound. McKenzie failed to pitch past the third inning for the second consecutive start Sunday, throwing just 41 of his 74 total pitches for strikes, while the four walks matched his total from his loss Tuesday versus Seattle.
