    • Dealing with hamstring issue
Harper felt hamstring tightness while running to first base in the ninth inning of Thursday's game against the Marlins, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Harper sustained the injury on a groundout to end the game. Manager Rob Thompson said no more details were known about the issue but that there would be more information Friday. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

    • Bryce Harper suffers left hamstring injury in loss
Bryce Harper suffered a left hamstring injury during Thursday’s loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Not good. Harper suffered the apparent injury during the ninth inning of Thursday’s loss while attempting to beat out an infield grounder on the final play of the contest. The 31-year-old slugger, who crushed an RBI double off the base of the center-field wall in the opening frame against Marlins southpaw Trevor Rogers for his 1,000th career hit, will undergo additional testing to determine the severity of the injury. There should be an update on his status prior to Friday’s showdown. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

    • Tanner Scott collects 11th save on Thursday
Tanner Scott tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Phillies to notch his 11th save of the season.

Advice: Scott was summoned to protect a three-run lead against the division-rival Phillies and set down the side in order on just nine pitches (six strikes). The 29-year-old lefty has converted 11 of 13 save opportunities to accompany a 1.54 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 36/23 K/BB ratio across 35 innings (34 appearances). He hasn’t allowed a run in seven consecutive appearances since June 17. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago
    • Nico Hoerner homers, steals base in victory
Nico Hoerner went 3-for-5 with a homer and a stolen base for the Cubs in an extra-inning win over the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Hoerner swatted a two-run blast off Jordan Hicks in the third inning to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead. That’s only the third homer of the season for the 27-year-old, but the steal was already the 14th of the year. Hoerner missed time with a hairline fracture in his hand, and he’s a good bet to see a much higher average than the .246 mark he’s put up thus far in the second half. Rotoworld Today, 4:51 pm

    • Spencer Turnbull out 6-8 weeks with lat strain
Spencer Turnbull will miss 6-8 weeks with a right lat strain.

Advice: It’s a significant loss for the Phillies, especially with Taijuan Walker (finger) also on the shelf due to injury. The 31-year-old righty suffered the injury on Wednesday during his return to Philadelphia’s starting rotation and will likely wind up sidelined until at least early-to-mid August. It’ll probably be Michael Mercado attempting to fill the void, unless the Phillies are able to work out a deal to bring in some additional depth. Rotoworld Today, 2:01 pm

    • Expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that he expects Turnbull (lat) to be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Turnbull suffered a right lat strain in his first start back in the Phillies' rotation Wednesday and was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Given the pitcher's lengthy injury history, the team will proceed with extra caution. Michael Mercado will slide into the Philadelphia rotation for now, at least until Taijuan Walker (finger) is ready. Rotowire.com Today, 1:02 pm

    • Phillies place Spencer Turnbull on IL
Phillies placed RHP Spencer Turnbull on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain.

Advice: Turnbull was removed from his start on Wednesday after pitching just three innings; however, the right-hander doesn’t think the injury is anything serious. He wanted to tell the Phillies as soon as he felt anything to make sure he didn’t aggravate the soreness he was feeling. There is no timeline yet for his recovery, but Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Michael Mercado would be the number five starter if Turnbull had to miss time. For now, reliever Yunior Marte was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Turnbull’s spot on the roster. Rotoworld Today, 12:15 pm

    • Headed to IL with strained lat
The Phillies placed Turnbull (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Advice: Turnbull had to depart Wednesday's start against the Tigers with right shoulder soreness. While the pitcher downplayed the injury after the game, subsequent testing revealed a lat strain. It's not yet clear how much time Turnbull might miss, but it's certainly the type of injury that could cost the right-hander several weeks. With Taijuan Walker (finger) also still out for a while, Michael Mercado could enter the Phillies' rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 12:01 pm

    • Saturday start being discussed
Gallen (hamstring) could start Saturday against Oakland if Thursday's bullpen session goes well, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

Advice: Thursday's bullpen session will be the second one thrown by Gallen, who also has a couple of simulated games under his belt since he landed on the injured list. The right-hander hasn't thrown in game conditions since May 30, when he threw just six pitches against the Mets before being removed due to the hamstring strain. Rotowire.com Today, 5:36 am
