    • Toughs out five scoreless frames
Bassitt gave up five hits and four walks over five scoreless innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Brewers. He struck out five.

Advice: It didn't come easy for Bassitt, as he had to contend with the bases loaded in both the first and fourth innings, though he'd manage to escape unscathed. After a shaky start to the year, the 35-year-old Bassitt's been solid since the start of May, pitching to a 2.25 ERA over his last eight outings. Overall, he's 6-6 with a 3.56 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 75:32 K:BB across 78.1 innings this season. Bassitt is currently in line to face the Red Sox at home in his next outing. • Nico Hoerner swipes two bases in return to lineup
Nico Hoerner went 1-for-4 with two steals Wednesday against the Rays in his return to the Cubs lineup.

Advice: Hoerner hadn’t started since suffering a hairline fracture in his hand Thursday. His two steals tonight gave him nine for the year, eight of which have come since May 1. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:13 pm

    • Jorge Polanco nearing rehab assignment
Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is nearing a minor league rehab assignment.

Advice: The 30-year-old infielder is in the midst of his second stint on the injured list due to a balky right hamstring. He has bene shelved since May 26 this time around, so he’s going to need at least a few games at Triple-A Tacoma before he’s ready to rejoin the Mariners. Ryan Bliss will continue to function as the team’s primary second baseman in the meantime. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:21 pm

    • Chris Bassitt settles for no-decision vs. Brewers
Chris Bassitt hurled five shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Brewers.

Advice: Bassitt departed in line for the win after striking out five and scattering five hits and four walks over five frames, but Toronto’s bullpen was unable to hold on. The 35-year-old veteran righty has been on a roll over the last few weeks, allowing three earned runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts since May 1. He’ll bring a solid 3.56 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 75/32 K/BB ratio across 78 1/3 innings (14 starts) into a favorable matchup on Tuesday against the Red Sox in Toronto. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:56 pm

    • Back in action Wednesday
Hoerner (hand) will start at second base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Advice: Though Hoerner was diagnosed with a small fracture in his right hand over the weekend, he avoided a stint on the injured list and will make his return to the lineup after missing only four starts. Before his recent absence, Hoerner had gone 0-for-8 over his last three starts, and it may take a bit for him to regain full strength in his hand and recapture the exit velocities he had provided prior to suffering the injury. Fantasy managers in leagues with daily lineup moves may be best served leaving Hoerner on the bench until he resumes producing at a level that warrants keeping him active. • Vlad Jr. is getting a day off on Wednesday
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup on Wednesday against the Brewers.

Advice: It’s just a routine rest day for Guerrero, who has seen his batting average skyrocket over the last few weeks with plenty of hard contact. The home runs have not been there, and might not ever come back at the level we saw in the past given his launch angles, but there’s nothing to worry about here. Spencer Horwitz will lead off and play first base on Wednesday with Isiah Kiner-Falefa at second base and Ernie Clement starting at third. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:22 am
    • Receiving day off
Guerrero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: With Daniel Vogelbach serving as Toronto's designated hitter and with Spencer Horwitz getting the nod at first base, Guerrero will hit the bench for the first time all season in what appears to be routine maintenance. Guerrero went hitless in nine at-bats over his first two games of the series to bring his batting average down to .282 for the season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:05 am
    • On base four times Tuesday
Carroll went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Angels.

Advice: Carroll began his night with an RBI triple in the second and later came around to score. He then doubled his next time up in the fourth and would walk and cross home once more in the fifth. Carroll's been dialed in at the plate as of late. Over his last five games, he's tallied nine hits and four walks while not striking out a single time. The mini surge has lifted his slash line to .213/.300/.309 with 15 extra-base hits, 21 RBI, 35 runs and a 29:52 BB:K over 283 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:03 am

    • Logs steal in loss
Steer went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to Cleveland.

Advice: Steer recorded his 12th steal in 65 games, putting him on pace to surpass the 15 he had over 156 games in 2023. Speed was not a hallmark to his game in the minors, but the running Reds have changed that. On an unrelated note, the team received news that first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand is mulling season-ending wrist surgery. That means Steer, who has been the primary fill-in for Encarnacion-Strand in recent weeks, may continue on as Cincinnati's regular at first base. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:54 am
