    • Javier picks up third win vs. A’s
      Cristian Javier struck out eight in six shutout innings and picked up the win in the Astros’ 8-1 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

      Advice: Javier allowed only two hits and a walk. It was a good bounce back start for him after he had allowed seven runs against the Tigers in his last start. Javier lowered his ERA to 3.23 on the season. He’ll face the Angels at home in his next start. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:57 pm
       
    • Mariners unsure when J.P. Crawford will return
      J.P. Crawford (hand, oblique) didn’t travel with the Mariners for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

      Advice: Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times adds that the Mariners aren’t certain when Crawford will return as he’s dealing with soreness and swelling in his right hand after being hit by a pitch during Wednesday’s rehab contest for Triple-A Tacoma. The 29-year-old shortstop will presumably undergo additional testing and imaging to determine the extent of the injury. There should be an update on his status at some point in the next few days.       Jorge Soler (shoulder) will play another minor league rehab contest on Thursday for Triple-A Sacramento.

      Advice: Soler went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday in his rehab assignment debut. The 32-year-old slugger checked out fine after being hit in the head by a deflection during batting practice earlier this week and should be ready to return to San Francisco’s lineup at some point in the near future.     • Timeline to return unclear
      Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

      Advice: Crawford was hit by a pitch in the hand during a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday and was still sore and swollen one day later.       According to Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, Keibert Ruiz is going back to the drawing board to try and break out of his slump.

      Advice: It’s been a rough start to the season for Ruiz, who missed two weeks because of a nasty case of the flu and now has put up a .393 OPS in 90 plate appearances, which among the 270 major leaguers who have taken at least 90 plate appearances so far this season, ranks dead-last in baseball. “I’ve got to sit down, relax, think a little bit better and swing at better pitches,” said Ruiz. “A better plan. And just stay with it. Don’t go out of the plan. Don’t chase for results. Just have a plan, and whatever happens, happens.” Ruiz is currently chasing pitches out of the zone less than before and making far more contact than last year. He’s also pulling the ball at the same rate and swinging and missing less, so it might not be what pitches he’s swinging at as much as it’s what he’s trying to do on those pitches.       Bichette went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.

      Advice: His two-run double in the third inning looked like it would be just enough offense to get the Jays the win, until Jordan Romano blew the save in the ninth. Bichette is finally catching fire at the plate, hitting safely in six straight games and batting .435 (10-for-23) over that stretch with a double, a homer, a steal, three runs and four RBI.       Soler (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in his first rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

      Advice: Soler had a freak accident Tuesday when he was hit in the head by a ball while taking batting practice, but he came out of the incident no worse for wear and was cleared to begin his rehab assignment a day later.     • Sharp in first win
      Woo (1-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Royals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: The right-hander pounded the zone, firing 60 of his 79 pitches for strikes, but after five scoreless innings Woo ran out of gas in the sixth and left the mound with runners on the corners and one out, clinging to a 2-1 lead. Gabe Speier was able to escape the jam, however, and the Seattle bullpen took care of the rest. Woo has been impressive in two starts since making his belated season debut, giving up just one run in 9.2 innings with an 8:2 K:BB, but he faces a tough test in his next outing -- a road start at Yankee Stadium early next week.
