    • Could return this week
Reds manager David Bell said Monday that Friedl (thumb) could return as soon as late this week or early next week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Just six games into his return from a fractured right wrist, Friedl suffered a broken left thumb as a result of a hit-by-pitch. Fortunately for Friedl and the Reds, it doesn't sound like he will have to miss nearly as much action this time around. Bell has already said he thinks Friedl could bypass a rehab assignment. • May not need rehab
Friedl (thumb) has started hitting off a tee and may not require a rehab assignment, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Apparently, Friedl is progressing at such a rate that manager David Bell feels he can avoid any detours and jump back into the majors. The outfielder, who missed the first six weeks of the season with a wrist injury, made just 24 plate appearances before suffering a fractured left thumb. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:37 am

    • Sitting vs. southpaw
Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the White Sox.

Advice: With the White Sox sending left-hander Garrett Crochet to the mound Sunday, the lefty-hitting Mullins will take a seat for the second straight game. Mullins pinch hit in the seventh inning in Saturday's 5-3 win, striking out in his only at-bat. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:13 am

    • Cedric Mullins out Sunday against White Sox
Cedric Mullins is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.

Advice: Mullins will get a day of rest with southpaw Garrett Crochet on the mound. Colton Cowser is getting the start in center field and he’ll hit ninth while Mullins gets a break. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:49 am

    • Smacks three-run shot
Ward went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Guardians.

Advice: Ward jumped on a four-seamer from Tanner Bibee in the bottom of the third and launched it over the wall in left field for a three-run shot to bring the Angels back within one run of Cleveland. It marked the fourth long ball for the outfielder in his last nine games as well as his first multi-RBI effort this month. Ward is now up to 11 home runs and 32 RBI on the campaign while also hitting safely in eight of his last 10 games. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:12 am

    • Ward hits 11th home run on Saturday
Taylor Ward went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run against the Guardians on Saturday.

Advice: Ward supplied all the offense for the Angels as they lost this one 4-3. The home run was his 11th of the season. After somewhat of a down season last year, Ward has regained his power stroke. His .211 ISO would be a career-high and his .271 average is also solid for the career .257 hitter. • Placed on IL with oblique strain
The Rays placed Lowe on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right oblique strain.

Advice: Lowe left Wednesday's game against the Red Sox due to right side tightness, and an MRI on Thursday revealed an oblique strain for the 26-year-old. Lowe began the year on the IL due to a Grade 1 right oblique strain, and he didn't make his season debut until May 6. The severity of the new oblique strain isn't known, but given that it's on the right side again, Lowe could be on the shelf beyond the 10-day minimum. For his part, Lowe said Saturday that he's hopeful for an abbreviated stay on the shelf, and he expects to resume baseball activities Monday, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. For whatever length of time Lowe misses, Jonny DeLuca, Jose Siri and Richie Palacios should benefit from more playing time in the outfield. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:17 am

    • Josh Lowe lands on IL with oblique strain
Rays placed OF Josh Lowe on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 23, with a right oblique strain.

Advice: Ugh. There was some optimism that Lowe wouldn’t be facing a lengthy absence after he wasn’t put on the injured list ahead of Friday’s series opener. The 26-year-old fantasy stalwart told reporters Saturday that he hopes to only have a minimum stay on the injured list, which is extremely encouraging. He’s been limited to just 14 games this season due to persistent injuries. It sounds like there’s a strong possibility he’ll return in early June. Rotoworld Saturday, 9:07 am

    • Not starting Saturday
Mullins is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Mullins will take a seat Saturday after going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Friday's 6-4 win over the White Sox. Baltimore will roll with Kyle Stowers in left field and Colton Cowser in center against Chicago right-hander Erick Fedde. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:43 am
