      Jansen pitched 1.1 perfect innings to earn the save in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Yankees.

      Advice: Greg Weissert was shaky in the eighth inning, but Jansen was able to get the last out of the frame with runners on the corners. The Red Sox added some insurance in the bottom of the eighth, and Jansen slammed the door in the ninth. The right-hander is up to 11 saves this season, though he has picked up just two of them over four appearances in June.     • Trevor Megill snags 12th save
      Trevor Megill closed out a 3-1 win over the Reds for his 12th save of the season.

      Advice: It wasn’t a flawless inning for Megill, who did allow a walk, a hit, and a run; however, he got the job done. He now has a 2.25 ERA on the season and has been a steadying presence for the Brewers at the end of games. Even though he will lose his job as closer when Devin Williams returns, he’ll remain a valuable reliever for the Brewers and needs to simply be held in fantasy leagues because you’re unlikely to get much trying to trade him away when everybody knows his time accruing saves is coming to a close within the month.     • Kenley Jansen locks down four-out save on Saturday
      Kenley Jansen picked up his 11th save of the season on Saturday night, recording the final four outs against the Yankees.

      Advice: Jansen came on to put out a fire in the eighth inning with two men on and two outs with the Red Sox clinging to a two-run advantage. He got Anthony Volpe to fly out to right field to end the threat — then returned to work a perfect ninth inning to close it out.     • Secures save Saturday
      Megill notched a save against the Reds on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk in one inning.

      Advice: A trio of Milwaukee pitchers combined to shut out Cincinnati over eight innings before the ball was handed to Megill for the ninth. The right-hander didn't make things easy, issuing a walk and allowing a run-scoring double before getting his first out, but he was ultimately able to slam the door for the save. Megill has been great in his first venture as a closer this season, going 12-for-13 in save tries while posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB over 20 innings. He appears to have a firm grasp on ninth-inning duties for the Brewers, at least until Devin Williams (back) is able to return from the injured list, potentially in the latter half of July.       Diaz gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Padres.

      Advice: A leadoff single by Jurickson Profar and a stolen base by pinch runner Jose Azocar created another nervous ninth for the Mets, but Diaz buckled down after that and fanned Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth to preserve the win. Diaz's velocity appears to be all the way back -- his fastest pitch Friday hit 100 mph -- and he's looked to be in just about peak form in two appearances since recovering from a shoulder impingement.       Clase struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 21st save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays.

      Advice: After catching Vladimir Guerrero looking on a third strike, Clase coaxed routine groundballs from Bo Bichette and Justin Turner to end the game. The right-hander has converted eight straight save chances, posting a 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 11:1 K:BB through 10 innings over that stretch, and Clase sits two back of the Cardinals' Ryan Helsley for the major-league saves lead.     • Edwin Díaz finally gets a save
      Edwin Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Mets to earn the save on Friday against the Padres. He struck out two and stranded a runner on third base.

      Advice: Díaz and the Mets really needed this one. You could hear a pin drop in Citi Field when Jurickson Profar led off the inning with a single, but Díaz was able to work around it for his first save in 39 days.     • Emmanuel Clase perfect in earning 21st save
      Emmanuel Clase pitched a perfect ninth against the Blue Jays for his 21st save Friday.

      Advice: Clase gave up single runs in his previous two appearances, but the Blue Jays didn’t threaten tonight. He had particularly good velocity in this one, averaging 100.9 mph with his cutter. That’s up 1.9 mph from his season mark. Rotoworld Friday, 7:13 pm
       
    • Nabs win in return
      Diaz (2-1) struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Thursday to pick up the win over the Marlins.

      Advice: The right-hander looked good in his first appearance since May 25, topping out at 99.6 mph with his fastball. Diaz had been on the IL with a shoulder impingement before being activated Thursday, but he hadn't been his usual dominant self even before getting shut down -- so far in 2024 he has a 16.7 percent whiff rate, one of the lowest marks of his career and a massive drop from the 25.2 percent rate he delivered in 2022. While his results were impressive Thursday, Diaz managed only two swinging strikes on 15 pitches, suggesting that he may not be fully back in form yet. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:49 am
