    • Tarik Skubal gives up four runs in loss to Astros
      Tarik Skubal struggled in Friday night’s loss to the Astros, giving up four runs on six hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: Skubal recorded only two strikeouts in the ballgame while allowing one base on balls. He kept the Astros’ offense completely off the board and was engaged in a scoreless pitcher’s duel heading to the sixth inning. They broke through there though, as Jose Altuve doubled, Alex Bregman smacked an RBI triple, Yordan Alvarez followed with a sacrifice fly and Mauricio Dubon tacked on a two-run homer. Skubal got 13 swings and misses on just 84 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent. Now 8-2 on the season, he’ll carry a pristine 2.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a 98/16 K/BB ratio (86 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Braves in Atlanta. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:09 pm
       
    • Fades late in loss
      Skubal (8-2) took the loss Friday in Houston, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Skubal failed to produce a quality start for just the fourth time in 14 outings this season. After completing five scoreless innings, the Tigers lefty allowed all four of his runs in the sixth, capped by a Mauricio Dubon two-run homer. In 86 innings this year, Skubal sports a 2.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 98:16 K:BB. The 27-year-old is currently scheduled to make his next start against Atlanta on the road.     • Luis Gil defeats Red Sox to improve to 9-1
      Luis Gil picked up his ninth victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Red Sox to just one run on four hits over his five innings of work.

      Advice: Gil racked up six strikeouts on the evening while allowing four walks. The lone tally against him in the ballgame came on a run-scoring double off the bat of Enmanuel Valdez in the fourth inning. Otherwise, he was locked in and able to make big pitches when he needed to in order to escape trouble. Gil generated 13 whiffs on 104 pitches in the contest — nine of them on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 26 percent.     • Returns with loss Thursday
      Munoz (back) picked up the loss Thursday as the Mariners fell to the White Sox, allowing an unearned run in the 10th inning.

      Advice: Munoz allowed a walk and a hit before a fielder's choice brought home the automatic runner. The good news was that Munoz didn't allow much in the way of hard contact and generated three swings and misses among his 17 pitches, 11 of which were strikes.     • Blows fourth save Thursday
      Holmes (1-2) allowed two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss and a blown save in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Royals.

      Advice: Holmes was one out away from his 20th save of the season before serving up a two-run double to Maikel Garcia. The 31-year-old closer had gone nine straight appearances without allowing a run and still carries an impressive 1.80 ERA for the season. As the ninth-inning man for the club with the most wins in MLB, he remains one of the safest options at the position, with his 19 saves being tied for third most this season.     • Clay Holmes takes blown save, loss in ninth
      Clay Holmes took a blown save and a loss after giving up two runs and three hits in the ninth Thursday against the Royals.

      Advice: Holmes made his own trouble by botching the play at first base on the soft infield single that started the ninth. Another single followed, and then Maikel Garcia ended the game with a double that stayed just fair down the right field line.       Suarez (4-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over the A's, giving up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning and striking out one.

      Advice: For the second straight game, Suarez benefited from a Padres walk-off homer, with Wednesday's coming off the bat of Jackson Merrill. The right-hander has been tagged for a run in only one of his 26 appearances since the beginning of April, and on the season Suarez sports a sparkling 0.61 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 28:6 K:BB through 29.1 innings.     • Receives injection for back
      Munoz had an MRI and bone scan on his back come back clean, but he received an injection Tuesday to address the lingering soreness, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

      Advice: The right-hander last pitched Sunday in Kansas City and has made just two appearances in June while battling through the back issue.       Skenes didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against St. Louis, allowing five hits and no walks across 6.1 scoreless innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Skenes was locked into a pitchers' duel with Miles Mikolas, as the first run of the game didn't come across until the ninth inning, leaving both starters with no-decisions. Individually, Skenes was excellent once again, punching out seven or more batters for the fifth time in six starts while issuing no walks for the first time all year. Through 33.1 innings, Skenes has struck out 46 batters and owns a 2.43 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He'll make his first trip to Coors Field on Sunday to face off against the Rockies.
