    • Clayton Kershaw goes three in first rehab start
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) went three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday night.

Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches on the night — 26 of them for strikes — while hitting 90 mph on his fastball. Kershaw surrendered one run on two hits and a walk while punching out five in the ballgame. He’ll continue to work every fifth day or so in the minor leagues to build up his stamina with a goal of rejoining the Dodgers’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. • Dealt to Miami
The Cubs traded Sanchez to the Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.

Advice: Sanchez has spent the entire season with Triple-A Iowa, slashing .240/.338/.388 with 21 RBI across 148 plate appearances. Given the awful seasons Nick Fortes and Christian Bethancourt have both had in the majors, it's possible Sanchez gets his first look in the big leagues since 2021 if he continues at his current pace. • Brayan Bello solid over six innings in win
Brayan Bello punched out six Red Sox across six innings on Wednesday in a 7-3 win over the Blue Jays. He walked two and allowed two earned runs on his way to securing the victory.

Advice: Bello showed a great approach in this one: leaning on his sinker and slider against right-handed batters while mixing those two with a heavy dose of changeups against lefties. He kept the ball on the edges and his velocity was up a tick across the board. The Blue Jays have made plenty of pitchers look great this season, but seeing Bello command his nasty arsenal is a welcome sight. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago

    • Kevin Gausman unsteady in loss to Red Sox
Kevin Gausman allowed five runs - four earned - in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday against the Red Sox. He struck out four and walked three en route to a loss.

Advice: Gausman never looked comfortable in this one. He allowed his first run in the midst of a two-error inning and then labored until being pulled in the sixth inning. He threw far too many fastballs in the heart of the zone and couldn’t get the Red Sox to bite at his splitters. His 4.24 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings so far this season have been disappointing. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

    • Jarren Duran homers, steals two bags
Jarren Duran went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and two stolen bases against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Duran’s long ball gave the Red Sox a lead and they wouldn’t let go as he continued his do-it-all season in this one. He’s pacing for about 15 homers, 40 steals, 100 runs scored, and 70 RBI in what would be a phenomenal year for the young outfielder. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

    • Spencer Horwitz with two hits out of lead-off spot
Spencer Horwitz went 2-for-4 with a walk on Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Advice: The Blue Jays are giving Horwitz an opportunity at the top of their lineup as he’s hit first or second in all 10 of his starts since being called-up. He’s done well there, too with more walks than strikeouts and a .353/.450/.412 slash line so far. There isn’t much power, but getting on base at the top of any lineup is valuable. • Exits with leg injury
Caratini was removed from Wednesday's game against the White Sox due to left leg discomfort, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Advice: Caratini made an awkward slide into home plate during the third inning, and he was replaced behind the dish once the Astros took the field in the bottom of the frame. The severity of the backstop's injury remains unknown, but it's possible he sits out a game or two in order to recover. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

    • Victor Caratini exits with left leg discomfort
Victor Caratini was removed from Wednesday night’s battle against the White Sox due to left leg discomfort.

Advice: Caratini suffered the injury making a terrible slide while running the bases. It sounds like he was fortunate to have avoided any type of significant injury and should be considered day-to-day. Expect Yainer Diaz to get the call behind the dish for Thursday’s series finale against the White Sox though. Rotoworld 49 minutes ago

    • Garrett Mitchell to stay at Triple-A for now
Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy told reporters on Wednesday that the plan is to have Garrett Mitchell (finger) stay at Triple-A Nashville for the time being.

Advice: The 25-year-old outfielder is ready to be activated from the injured list from a health perspective, but there’s really no spot for him on the active roster at the moment. Eventually, when his rehab window expires, he’ll need to be activated and optioned to Triple-A, where he’ll continue to play every day until he’s needed at the big-league level.
