    Oakland selected Brooks' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.

    Advice: After designating Brooks for assignment June 2, the Athletics outrighted him to Las Vegas two days later upon clearing waivers. He's gone 1-1 in his two starts since returning to Triple-A, allowing five runs (three earned) on 11 hits and one walk while striking out eight over nine innings. Though he'll rejoin the big club ahead of Sunday's game against the Twins, Brooks will likely be relegated to a mop-up role out of the bullpen after turning in a 5.82 ERA in his four starts with Oakland earlier this season.   • A’s bring up Aaron Brooks on Sunday from Triple-A
    Athletics selected the contract of RHP Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Las Vegas.

    Advice: Brooks gets the call to fortify Oakland’s bullpen ahead of Sunday’s game against the Twins with Dany Jiménez heading to the injured list. The 34-year-old journeyman righty made four starts earlier this season for the Athletics before being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster.   • Jack Flaherty to have next start pushed back
    Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Sunday that Jack Flaherty will have his next start pushed back.

    Advice: Flaherty was excellent on Friday in a win over the White Sox and the Tigers simply want to give him some extra rest before taking the ball again since he’s been pitching through a lingering back issue. The 28-year-old righty was slated to take the ball during Wednesday’s series finale against the Phillies, but is going to get at least one additional rest day instead. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:50 am

    Wheeler (9-4) picked up the win in Saturday's 12-1 rout of the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on two hits over seven innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

    Advice: The right-hander was dominant, generating 31 called or swinging strikes among his 97 pitches as he racked up his sixth quality start in his last seven trips to the mound. Wheeler is 5-1 over that stretch with a 2.96 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 42:13 K:BB through 45.2 innings, and he'll look to stay locked in for his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Marlins.   • Blanks KC for third win
    Gray (3-3) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two hits over six scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory over the Royals. He struck out three.

    Advice: Both hits were third-inning singles, but Gray shut down the rally and proceeded to retire the final 10 batters he faced before exiting. The right-hander tossed 72 pitches (51 strikes) en route to his sixth quality start of the season, but Saturday marked the first time he'd lasted at least six innings in a start since May 15. Gray will take a 3.03 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 68:19 K:BB through 71.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:24 am

  • Outdueled in return
    Wacha (4-6) took the loss Saturday as the Royals were blanked 6-0 by the Rangers, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.

    Advice: Making his first start in June after recovering from a foot fracture, Wacha was sharp over 74 pitches (52 strikes) but had no margin for error, and a Josh Smith solo shot in the fourth inning tagged him with the loss. The veteran right-hander has given up two earned runs or less in six straight outings dating back to May 9, posting a 2.55 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB through 35.1 innings over that stretch.     Burnes (8-3) allowed four runs on five hits and struck out five without walking a batter over seven innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Astros.

    Advice: Burnes had a solid outing, but a two-run home run by Yordan Alvarez and a solo shot by Chas McCormick were too much for the Orioles to overcome. This marks the first time all year Burnes has given up multiple homers in a start -- he's yielded just 10 long balls through 16 starts. While this wasn't his best work, he's still at an excellent 2.35 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 94:24 K:BB through 99.2 innings. Burnes is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rangers.     Berrios (6-6) allowed five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Guardians.

    Advice: The Guardians aren't known for power, but they tagged Berrios with three home runs -- Bo Naylor, Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan all took the right-hander deep. With seven homers allowed over his last four starts, Berrios' trouble with the long ball is becoming a concern. He's given up 14 runs across 22.2 innings in that span and now has a 3.43 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB through 97 innings across 16 starts this season.     Advice: Lively bounced back from his shortest start of the year by getting back into the win column. He hasn't struck out more than five batters in any of his last five outings, but he's generally been good at limiting damage, as he's given up two or fewer runs in nine of his 12 starts. The right-hander is at a 3.03 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 56:20 K:BB through 65.1 innings this season, though he's also been tagged for 10 home runs, including two in Saturday's start.
