    • Ben Rice moved into cleanup spot by Yankees
The Yankees have swapped Ben Rice and Alex Verdugo in Wednesday’s lineup, with Rice moving into the cleanup spot.

Advice: Rice has hit like a cleanup man with his .267/.348/.567 line to date. Verdugo has been swinging like a No. 9 hitter, but maybe the change will be nice; he was a solid leadoff man for Boston last year. The problem for the Yankees right now is that Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Rice are the team’s only semi-regulars with even .310 OBPs. Rotoworld Today, 12:46 pm

    • Slugs fifth homer
Rice went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Tuesday in a loss to the Rays.

Advice: Rice brought New York to within a run with his two-run shot in the seventh frame, but the team was unable to score again. The rookie first baseman continues to thrive in the majors, as he's slashing .267/.348/.567 with five home runs, three doubles, nine runs and 14 RBI over just 19 contests covering 69 plate appearances. All five of Rice's homers and 10 of his RBI have come over his past five games. Rotowire.com Today, 9:41 am

    • Works four innings again
Springs (elbow) completed four innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and no walks while striking out two in a rehab outing with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

Advice: Springs worked four innings for the second consecutive rehab outing, though he struggled to get strikeouts at the same rate as his past appearances. Nevertheless, Springs remains on a positive trajectory and is projected to return to the Rays in late July. Rotowire.com Today, 8:27 am

    • Jeffrey Springs gives up three runs in rehab start
Jeffrey Springs allowed three runs — two earned — over four innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

Advice: Springs has a 3.12 ERA and a 21/6 K/BB ratio in 17 1/3 innings over his six starts for Durham. He averaged 90.4 mph with his fastball last night, down from 91.7 mph in his three starts before he blew out his elbow in 2023. Obviously, it’d be nice if the velocity were all the way back, but he might be able to get major league hitters out as is. First, he’s due at least one more rehab start. • Can't take advantage of offense
Lodolo came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 12-6 win over the Rockies, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: The Reds staked Lodolo to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but the southpaw struggled with his command and served up a pair of homers to Brenton Doyle and Michael Toglia in the fourth inning before getting the hook after 69 pitches (36 strikes). Lodolo has failed to complete five innings in back-to-back outings, but that comes on the heels of four straight quality starts. He'll try to get back on track in his final trip to the mound before the All-Star break, as he lines up for a home start against the Marlins this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 7:38 am

    • Adds 15th homer
Paredes went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Paredes provided the key blast in the first inning Tuesday, taking Carlos Rodon deep for a three-run shot, putting the Rays ahead 4-1 early. It's the fourth homer in 12 games for the third baseman, though he's gone just 9-for-44 (.205) in that span. Overall, Paredes is batting .267 with an .830 OPS, 15 homers, 50 RBI and 35 runs scored through 86 games this season. Rotowire.com Today, 7:10 am

    • Slugs 16th homer
Lindor went 3-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Nationals.

Advice: The shortstop took Jake Irvin deep for a two-run shot in the sixth inning, giving the Mets a 6-0 lead that the bullpen couldn't quite squander. Lindor is up to 16 homers on the season, including three in the last eight games, and over his last 25 contests he's slashing .311/.379/.592 with 11 doubles, six long balls, seven steals, 17 RBI and 24 runs. • Secures ninth save
Diaz struck out the only batter he faced Tuesday to record his ninth save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Nationals.

Advice: The Mets took a 7-2 lead into the ninth inning, but Reed Garrett made a mess of things and forced manager Carlos Mendoza to turn to his closer with two outs and a runner on first base. Diaz actually allowed the inherited runner to score after Jacob Young took second on defensive indifference and then raced around the bases on a wild pitch, but the right-hander fanned CJ Abrams to end the game. Diaz has gone six straight appearances since returning from his suspension without having a run charged to his own ledger, collecting two wins and four saves during that stretch with a 6:1 K:BB. • Hit hard in loss to Mets
Irvin (7-7) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up six runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings as the Nationals fell 7-5 to the Mets. He struck out two.

Advice: The right-hander dominated the Mets on July 4, but the Nats' NL East rivals got some revenge in the rematch, with a three-run homer by Brandon Nimmo in the second inning and a two-run blast by Francisco Lindor in the sixth accounting for most of the damage off Irvin. He hadn't served up multiple homers in a start since May 22, while the six runs allowed tied his season high. Irvin will take a 3.13 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 96:26 K:BB through 112 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road in Milwaukee this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 6:00 am
