• Cole Irvin gets hold in first relief appearance
Cole Irvin worked two scoreless innings for a hold Sunday in his first relief appearance of the season.

Advice: The Orioles are probably going to use a six-man rotation for most of the next month, so Irvin could be back in the mix next time through. It’s pretty fortunate for the Orioles that they can view him as their sixth starter in spite of his 4-1 record and 2.90 ERA in seven starts. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Craig Kimbrel perfect in return to closer’s role
Getting a chance to close for the first time since May 8, Craig Kimbrel struck out two in a perfect ninth Sunday against the Mariners.

Advice: This was truly easing him back into the closer’s role; not only did he have a three-run lead, but he was getting the bottom third of the Mariners lineup. Kimbrel has allowed just one batter to reach in four scoreless innings since his May 8 outing knocked him out of the closer’s role for a spell. He’ll likely be the primary guy for now, though it’d be best if he could go a couple of more weeks without any miscues. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Out with elbow inflammation
Bird was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Advice: It's unclear when the injury first surfaced for Bird, but he struggled in his past three outings with six walks and four runs allowed. The 28-year-old will be eligible to return in early June, but a longer absence wouldn't be surprising given it's an elbow injury. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Jordan Romano nails down seventh save
Jordan Romano struck out the only batter he faced on Sunday to earn the save.

Advice: Romano came on for the last out of the game after Zach Pop allowed a two-run homer to Isaac Paredes and closed the door. Strikeouts have lagged for Romano since returning from the IL and his hold on the closer role could become shaky with Yimi Garcia’s breakout. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago
  • Nick Pivetta fans eight in defeating Cardinals
Nick Pivetta limited the Cardinals to one run and one hit over six innings in Boston’s 11-3 win Sunday.

Advice: The one-hit was a 441-foot homer from Lars Nootbaar, but Pivetta retired every other batter he faced, striking out eight of them. He struggled in his first start back from the IL, but he has a 3.04 ERA and a 30/2 K/BB ratio through five outings this year. He’ll get the Brewers next. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

  • Matthew Liberatore pulled in fourth versus Red Sox
Matthew Liberatore was charged with four runs and six hits in three-plus innings Sunday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Liberatore allowed two runs through three innings and then gave up a single and an RBI double to open the fourth, at which point he was pulled. The Red Sox went on to score three times in that inning thanks to Nolan Arenado losing the ball in the sun and gifting a “triple” to Jarren Duran. Liberatore was sporting decent results in relief, but his ERA has jumped from 3.54 to 5.40 in his two starts over the last week. A return to the pen would seem to be a good idea, and Sem Robberse might be a candidate to take his rotation spot. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

  • Jhoan Duran takes loss against Guardians
Jhoan Duran allowed a walk-off, three-run homer to Will Brennan on Sunday. He also walked two.

Advice: Duran administered free passes to Andrés Giménez and Josh Naylor before Will Brennan barely cleared the right field fence to win the game. That one home run ballooned Duran’s ERA from 1.13 to 4.15. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago
  • Chris Paddack fires eight innings in no-decision
Chris Paddack threw eight innings and allowed just two earned runs on Sunday against the Guardians. He struck out six and walked none.

Advice: This was the longest outing of Paddack’s career and the first time he’s pitched into the eighth innings since July 17th, 2019! His 4.47 ERA remains a bit unsightly, but he’s shown tremendous signs of progress with his solid changeup, great command, and new slider. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

  • Shut down from throwing
Bradford (ribs) said Sunday he's been shut down from throwing since he's not recovering as quickly as expected, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The left-hander apparently wasn't experiencing any pain since recently starting up a throwing program, but his recovery also wasn't moving forward. It's unclear when Bradford is expected to restart the throwing program, and he should be considered out indefinitely until his status is updated. Rotowire.com Today, 12:52 pm
