    Willson Contreras will miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery later this week on his fractured left forearm.

    Advice: It’s a significant development for the Cardinals as Contreras will wind up requiring surgery to repair a fractured left forearm that he suffered during Tuesday’s game against the Mets when he was struck by a swing from J.D.     Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Miller (shoulder) is coming up on a minor-league rehab assignment "pretty quickly," Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

    Advice: Miller threw a bullpen session Monday, his second since being placed on the injured list with inflammation in his right shoulder April 13. Roberts noted that the right-hander's velocity was "good" in the session and sounded optimistic about Miller's progress in his recovery from the injury. The second-year hurler will make at least one minor-league rehab start, though it's still unclear how many more bullpens he'll throw before he reaches that point.     Kershaw (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

    Advice: This was the second bullpen session Kershaw has thrown since undergoing shoulder surgery last November. The southpaw hurled 15 pitches in his initial bullpen Friday and increased that amount to 20 pitches Tuesday. He's throwing only fastballs at this point, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that the results have been "really encouraging" so far. Kershaw could next advance to including breaking pitches in his mound work and ramping up to more pitches as he slowly works his way back to game action. Ivan Herrera is now the favorite to receive the bulk of starts behind the plate while Contreras is out, and it's likely the Cardinals promote Pedro Pages from Triple-A Memphis to be the new backup.     Pete Alonso went 2-for-5 with a homer, double, and three RBI in the Mets’ win over the Cardinals on Tuesday night.

    Advice: Alonso broke out in a big way against Miles Mikolas and the Cardinals after a 2-for-44 lull. His two-run double gave the Mets the lead and his eighth inning homer added a valuable insurance run as Adam Ottavino ran into trouble in the ninth.     Adam Ottavino allowed one earned run and earned the save for the Mets on Tuesday night to collect his first save of the season with Edwin Díaz unavailable.

    Advice: Ottavino took over closer duties for the Mets Tuesday after Díaz worked back-to-back days Sunday and Monday. Things got dicey after a Lars Nootbaar homer and some traffic on the bases, but Ottavino struck out Paul Goldschmidt and Alec Burleson to end the game.
