• Ian Gibaut out indefinitely following arm surgery
Ian Gibaut underwent anterior interosseous nerve release surgery on his right arm on Thursday.

Advice: Reds manager David Bell declined to provide a return timetable for Gibaut, telling reporters that the hope is he’ll return at some point this season. There was some uncertainty surrounding the type of procedure the 30-year-old righty would wind up requiring and it ended up being the more invasive anterior nerve release procedure that carries a longer recovery timeline. • Wins third straight
Lopez (4-2) earned the win Thursday over the Mariners, allowing one run on four hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out 10.

Advice: Lopez was excellent Thursday, holding Seattle to a lone second-inning run while recording a season-high 10 strikeouts. After an inconsistent start to the campaign, Lopez looks to be settling in -- he's won his last three starts while holding opponents to one run in back-to-back outings. He lowered his ERA to 3.89 with a 0.98 WHIP and a stellar 55:8 K:BB across eight starts (44 innings) this year. Lopez is currently slated for a home matchup with the Yankees in his next outing. • Tagged for eight runs
Gilbert (3-1) took the loss Thursday against the Twins, allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Five of Minnesota's runs came in the first inning, including three on a Manuel Margot double. Gilbert hadn't allowed more than two earned runs in his last five starts, recording quality starts in six of his previous seven outings. His ERA went from 1.69 to 2.94 after Thursday with a 0.94 WHIP and 54:15 K:BB across 52 innings. Gilbert will look to get back on track in his next turn in the rotation, currently scheduled for next week against Kansas City. Rotowire.com Today, 3:42 pm

  • Cal Quantrill pitches well again in win over SF
Cal Quantrill held the Giants to just one run Thursday over six innings while picking up a win for the Rockies.

Advice: Quantrill scattered five hits with three walks, and he struck out five. As seen from the numbers above there was some traffic, but Quantrill was able to make enough key pitches to limit the damage while picking up another victory. That makes back-to-back effective starts for the 29-year-old, as he has given up just one run over his last 13 2/3 innings to lower his ERA to 3.94. The Rockies are going nowhere, but Quantrill will be an intriguing trade target if he keeps this up. His next chance comes Tuesday against the Padres. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

  • Keaton Winn can’t get out of fourth in loss
Keaton Winn gave up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings Thursday while picking up a loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Oof. Winn was fine over the first three innings. He was anything but in the fourth. The Rockies ended up picking up seven off the right-hander, and while he threw 39-of-51 pitches for strikes, he also only picked up one strikeout and didn’t fool the Colorado hitters — particularly in that fourth inning. That’s back-to-back clunkers for Winn, and his ERA has ballooned to 5.63 in the process. It’s really not a good idea to use him next week in a scheduled start against the Dodgers. • Placed on 15-day IL
The Rangers placed Sborz on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right rotator cuff strain.

Advice: This marks the second time already this season that Sborz has had to spend time on the injured list due to a strained rotator cuff. His first IL stint lasted roughly two-and-a-half weeks, though it's possible the Rangers bring him back slower this time around to minimize the risk of re-injury. A corresponding move will be made ahead of Friday's game against the Rockies. Rotowire.com Today, 2:27 pm

  • Josh Sborz lands on IL with rotator cuff strain
Rangers placed RHP Josh Sborz on the 15-day injured list with a right rotator cuff strain.

Advice: The Rangers will wait until Friday’s series opener against the Rockies before making a corresponding move to fill his roster spot. Sborz’s velocity was down significantly across the board before he was lifted from Wednesday’s relief outing against the Athletics and he’s going to wind up requiring a lengthy absence. • Undergoes shoulder surgery
Rom underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder last week, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: It sounds as though the operation wound up being less invasive than initially anticipated, with a return before the end of the season for Rom not totally ruled out. The left-hander had been plagued by shoulder issues since mid-March before finally opting for surgery. Rotowire.com Today, 1:48 pm

  • Drew Rom out indefinitely after shoulder surgery
Drew Rom underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery last week.

Advice: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol indicated that it’s not necessarily season-ending for Rom, but he’s going to wind up being sidelined until the late stages of the year. There’s a chance he’s back for a handful of appearances at some point in September. Rotoworld Today, 1:44 pm
