    • Quality start wasted Friday
Waldron (5-9) took the loss Friday as the Padres fell 7-0 to the Guardians, allowing one run on six hits over six innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Advice: The knuckleballer was sharp in his ninth quality start of the season, tossing 66 of 97 pitches for strikes, but he had no margin for error as San Diego's offense was ice cold coming out of the All-Star break. Waldron has worked at least six innings in nine of his last 10 trips to the mound, posting a 2.59 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB through 62.2 innings over that stretch. He lines up to make his next outing on the road next week against the Nationals. Rotowire.com Today, 7:25 am
    • Corbin Burnes strong for six in earning 10th win
Corbin Burnes held the Rangers to one run in six innings to earn his 10th win Friday.

Advice: An All-Star pitcher starting the first game after the break isn’t something that typically happens these days, but since Burnes is a free agent-to-be and doesn’t seem particularly likely to re-sign with the Orioles, yeah, might as well. It’s his 14th quality start in 15 tries, and his only miss in that span was an outing in which he allowed four runs in seven innings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:46 pm
    • Wins despite command issues
Burnes (10-4) allowed a run on two hits and four walks over six innings Friday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rangers.

Advice: The lone blemish on Burnes' final line was a solo shot from Nathaniel Lowe in the second inning. It was the first time this year that he'd issued more than three walks in a start -- over his previous four outings, he had walked just one batter. Burnes has gone 7-2 with an impressive 2.10 ERA over his last 12 starts. The veteran righty lowered his ERA to 2.38 with a 116:29 K:BB through 124.2 frames. His next outing is currently expected to come in Miami. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:03 pm
    • Matt Waldron turns in another quality start
Matt Waldron scattered six hits and allowed one earned run in six-plus innings on Friday against the Guardians. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Advice: Per usual, Waldron’s knuckleball was dancing in this one. Oddly enough, it was up over two ticks and sat just below 80 MPH. The Guardians could not find a way to square it up as Waldron worked his eighth quality start in 10 chances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:28 pm
    • St. Louis-Atlanta postponed Friday
Gray and the Cardinals won't face Atlanta on Friday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Advice: Friday's contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, and Gray will get the nod to start the nightcap, per John Denton of MLB.com. The 34-year-old righty owns a 3.34 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 99.2 innings on the season, though he has given up 11 earned runs over 16.1 innings across his last three starts. • Resumes baseball activity
Rengifo (wrist) began throwing, fielding groundballs and hitting off a tee Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Rengifo landed on the injured list July 5 due to right wrist inflammation, and the increased activity is a good indication that he'll be back in action soon. It remains unclear if the Angels will send him for a brief rehab assignment before reinstating him from the IL. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:36 pm

    • Luis Rengifo (wrist) doing baseball activities
Luis Rengifo (wrist) was able to take ground balls, throw and hit off of a tee on Friday without any issues.

Advice: Updates on Rengifo’s status have been few and far between since he landed on the injured list on July 4 with inflammation in his right wrist. It’s unclear if he’ll need a minor league rehab assignment before he’s cleared to rejoin the Angels’ roster, but he sounds like he’s trending in the right direction. The last hurdle to clear may be facing live pitching. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:26 pm

    • Plays catch Friday
Betts (hand) played catch Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Betts previously had someone else catch the ball for him while he continued to keep his arm active, but Friday marked the first time he was able to catch balls himself using his fractured left hand. The Dodgers have yet to set a target return date for the 31-year-old, though there's still a chance he's able to rejoin the team in early August. When Betts does rejoin the lineup, he may be used as a second baseman given Miguel Rojas' strong performance while filling in as his replacement at shortstop. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:36 pm

    • Idle Friday
Wong isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Friday's game versus the Dodgers, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Wong will take a seat for the first game of the second half after also sitting down during the final two games before the All-Star break. Reese McGuire will once again draw the start behind the plate and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:23 pm
