    • Tending to hamstring injury
Pirates manager Derek Shelton disclosed that Cruz was removed from Monday's 8-2 win over the Mets in the bottom of the eighth inning due to his hamstring tightening up when he rounded the bases in the sixth inning, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run -- his 14th of the season and an additional run scored before exiting the contest. After reaching on a base hit in his final at-bat in the bottom of the sixth, Cruz apparently tweaked his hamstring either while advancing to second on Rowdy Tellez's infield single or while coming around to score on Nick Gonzales' double. Cruz played the next two innings in the field before he was replaced when his next turn in the batting order came up in the eighth, due to what Shelton said was an "abundance of caution." Based on Shelton's description, Cruz might have been dealing with cramping rather than a hamstring strain, but fantasy managers will still want to keep close tabs on the shortstop's status heading into Tuesday's series opener in Milwaukee. • Oneil Cruz hits fifth homer in last 15 games
Oneil Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Mets on Monday.

Advice: Cruz has five homers in his last 15 games, and his current .747 OPS is his highest mark since mid-May. It seems like there’s probably still more to come here; Cruz is tied for 10th in the majors with 36 barrels, but he’s merely tied for 36th with his 14 homers. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

    • Slugs 14th homer
Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Monday's 8-2 win versus the Mets.

Advice: The Pittsburgh shortstop smashed a 431-foot, two-run blast off Christian Scott in the fourth inning to open the game's scoring. It marked Cruz's second homer of July, as he's batting .333 (8-for-24) with four runs scored and five RBI across seven games this month so far. Overall, the 25-year-old is slashing .247/.303/.444 with 40 runs scored and 41 RBI in 330 total plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 12:30 pm

    • Mashes leadoff home run
Carroll went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Advice: Carroll led things off by taking Dylan Cease deep to right center to push the Diamondbacks ahead to an early 1-0 lead. It was his first home run since May 7 and his first RBI since June 18. Carroll is now up to three home runs for the year and is exhibiting a significant power decrease after blasting 25 long balls a season ago. The 23-year-old is now slashing .210/.297/.318 with 24 extra-base hits, 24 RBI, 54 runs and a 38:68 BB:K in 379 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 7:29 am
    • Strong start spoiled
Gil (9-5) took the loss Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out nine over 6.2 innings.

Advice: Gil was locked into a scoreless pitcher's duel with Kutter Crawford until he gave up an opposite-field solo home run to Rafael Devers in the seventh. He retired one more batter after Devers and then exited the game and wound up with the loss after the Yankees ended up getting shut out. It was an encouraging showing for Gil nonetheless after he had surrendered 16 runs and posted a 6:9 K:BB in 9.2 innings over his prior three starts. Sunday was also the first time the 26-year-old managed to not walk a batter all year and the first time he reached six innings since June 4. Gil will look to generate one more strong start before the All-Star break and currently lines up to face the Orioles in Baltimore over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 6:34 am

    • Launches game-tying homer
Springer went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run during Sunday's 5-4 win over Seattle in 10 innings.

Advice: Springer came through for the Blue Jays, knotting the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning with a three-run home run off Ryne Stanek. The outfielder has led off in each of his last four starts, batting 5-for-14 with five runs scored, four walks and three strikeouts. On the year, Springer owns a .670 OPS, which would be a career worst if it stands. Rotowire.com Today, 12:52 am

    • Luis Gil fans nine Red Sox in tough-luck loss
Luis Gil was outstanding in a tough-luck loss against the Red Sox on Sunday night, racking up nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

Advice: The 26-year-old hurler scattered just four hits on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. He was engaged in a scoreless pitcher’s duel with Kutter Crawford until he served up an opposite-field solo homer to Rafael Devers in the seventh inning. Gil generated 15 swings and misses on 96 pitches in the ballgame — seven on his fastball and six on his slider — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine outing and finish the first half strong as he brings a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 111/48 K/BB ratio (96 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Orioles in Baltimore on Saturday. • George Springer blasts three-run homer as Jays win
George Springer continued his hot hitting in Sunday’s extra-inning 5-4 victory over the Mariners, going 1-for-5 with a three-run homer.

Advice: Springer turned the game on its head and started the comeback for the Jays, crushing a game-tying 400-foot (106.9 mph EV) three-run homer off of Ryne Stanek in the seventh inning that knotted things up at 4-4. That would be his only hit on the night but played a critical role in the come-from-behind victory. On the season, the 34-year-old outfielder is now slashing .221/.311/.361 with 10 homers and 31 RBI. • Corbin Carroll hits first homer in two months
Corbin Carroll took the Padres’ Dylan Cease deep Sunday for his first homer since May 7.

Advice: Carroll hit the ball 397 feet, his second-farthest shot this year. It’s the first time since that May 7 homer that he’d hit one over 370 feet. Carroll has just one 400-foot blast this season, compared to 21 last year. We still wouldn’t say there’s a whole lot to be encouraged about here. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:47 pm
