    • Gray appears to ask out of game Monday
      Sonny Gray allowed one earned run, struck out six in 5 2/3 innings, picked up the win and appeared to ask Cardinals manager Oli Marmol to remove him from the game in the Cardinals 6-3 victory over the Orioles on Monday.

      Advice: We’ll have another update on Gray’s status when we know more. The win was Gray’s sixth of the season. He cruised through the first five innings. In the sixth inning, after two men reached on an errors, he allowed a three-run home run to Gunnar Henderson. Four batters later, he appeared to ask out of the game and was removed for JoJo Romero, who escaped the jam. The 34-year-old right-hander is tentatively scheduled to face the Cubs at home on Saturday.

      Advice: Swanson was expected to be activated prior to Tuesday's game against Atlanta, and the team has elected to make the move official a bit earlier than anticipated despite not having a game Monday.       Cubs activated SS Dansby Swanson from the 10-day injured list.

      Advice: The Cubs don’t play today, so it’s kind of surprising that the move is coming now. However, MLB.com’s transactions page says it’s official. Still unofficial is the Luis Vazquez callup, which is expected to happen before the game Tuesday. Swanson should start at shortstop Tuesday after missing two weeks with a sprained knee.       Thomas (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

      Advice: Thomas is set to play Tuesday and Wednesday before being reevaluated. Assuming all goes well, it would set him up to be activated ahead of the Nationals' weekend series against the Mariners.     • Homers again in Sunday's loss
      Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Torkelson got the Tigers on the board with a solo blast to center off Jordan Montgomery in the third inning and later scored once more after reaching on a fielder's choice. After not homering in his first 37 games of the season, Torkelson now has three home runs in his last seven games and seems to finally be heating up after a slow start to the year. The 24-year-old also has at least a hit in 12 of 13 games dating back to May 5 and is now slashing .227/.291/.360 with 17 RBI, 21 runs and a 13:43 BB:K in 189 plate appearances.       Nootbaar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 11-3 loss to the Red Sox.

The outfielder had a slow start to the year after missing the first two weeks with broken ribs.       Spencer Torkelson clubbed his third home run of the season on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to power the Tigers past the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

      Advice: The 24-year-old slugger got the Tigers on the board in the third inning, crushing a 428-foot (106.5 mph EV) solo shot off of Jordan Montgomery in the third inning. He also reached on a fielder’s choice in the seventh inning and scored on an RBI triple off the bat of Kerry Carpenter that was nearly an inside-the-park home run.
