    • Triceps tightness keeps Senga from mound session
      Kodai Senga did not throw his scheduled bullpen session Monday because of triceps tightness.

      Advice: Senga isn’t being shut down; the Mets are still hoping to have him on the mound later this week. All of these little setbacks he’s having as he tries to return from a shoulder injury are very concerning, and it doesn’t really seem like he’s someone to count on at this point.       Senga did not throw a scheduled bullpen session Sunday due to right triceps tightness, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Senga had seemingly been making good progress recently as he works his way back from a right posterior shoulder capsule strain, but he's now encountered another speed bump. The hope is that he'll be ready to throw off the mound later this week, but certainly the Mets will wait until the right-hander is pain-free before he resumes a throwing program.       Cole (elbow) will face hitters Tuesday, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

      Advice: Cole has been throwing off a mound for a couple weeks and is now ready to face hitters for the first time since he was diagnosed with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow back in mid-March.     • Cole will face hitters for the first time in 2024
      Gerrit Cole is scheduled to face live hitters on Tuesday.

      Advice: Cole played catch on Monday and felt good, so he will now progress to facing live hitters for the first time in his rehab process. There is still a long way to go for Cole, who will face live hitters a couple of times before beginning a proper rehab assignment. The current timeline, provided he doesn’t experience any setbacks, is for Cole to return sometime in mid to late June. What that means for Luis Gil, Clarke Schmidt and the other Yankees starters who are pitching well is anybody’s guess at this point. Rotoworld Today, 12:56 pm

      Sewald secured the save Sunday against the Tigers after working a perfect ninth inning. He struck out one.

      Advice: Sewald needed just 10 pitches to get the job done and picked up a strikeout against Spencer Torkelson in the process. He's now converted all three of his save chances on the year and has tossed four straight scoreless innings while giving up just one hit since giving up a run in his season debut May 7.       Carroll went 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over Detroit. He was also caught stealing.

      Advice: Carroll tripled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored the first of two Arizona runs during the frame. It was the second straight game with a triple for Carroll, who finished second in MLB last season with 10 three-baggers. He was moved back to leadoff seven games ago, but it hasn't done much to break Carroll's season-opening slump; he's 4-for-24 with three extra-base hits, five runs and has been caught stealing twice.       Hicks (4-1) allowed a run on three hits and a walk while striking out one over five innings to earn the win Sunday over the Rockies.

      Advice: Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports Hicks threw up his pregame meal. The right-hander also experienced diminished velocity -- all of his pitches were down between 2.4 and 3.6 mph from his season averages in Sunday's start, so it's obvious he wasn't at full strength. He still landed 49 of 72 pitches for strikes and gave up just a first-inning home run to Ryan McMahon, while the Giants' bullpen picked him up with four hitless innings. Hicks has gone past five innings in just three of his 10 starts this year, but he's done well with a 2.38 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 40:17 K:BB over 53 innings. It's not odd that the Giants may be managing his innings carefully since he's never exceeded 77.2 innings in a major-league campaign.       Kirby (4-4) suffered the loss Sunday against the Orioles, allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Kirby was tagged for a solo homer by Gunnar Henderson to lead off the game and eventually allowed five runs and two homers through three innings before settling down and making it through six frames with no additional damage. It was the first time in seven starts Kirby has allowed more than five hits, while the five earned runs lifted Kirby's ERA to 3.99 over 56.1 innings and 5.19 over 26 innings on the road. Kirby's next start is also slated to take place on the road, though in a much friendlier matchup, as he's tentatively lined up to take on the Nationals in Washington next weekend.
