  • Jake Woodford hit hard in loss to Red Sox
    Jake Woodford was obliterated for seven runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Red Sox.

    Advice: The Red Sox had no trouble solving Woodford in this one as he surrender a whopping 10 hits, including a leadoff blast to Jarren Duran and a three-run homer to Enmanuel Valdez. He struck out three and also issued three walks. The White Sox don’t have a ton of alternatives to plug into their starting rotation at the moment, but it’s difficult to imagine Woodford getting another turn here. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:52 pm
     
  • Railes Iglesias gets 16th save Thursday
    Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Nationals on Thursday.



    Advice: The save was Iglesias’ 16th of the season, but his lack of strikeouts this season is evident. He has struck out seven in his last 12 innings. Iglesias’ 17 percent strikeout percentage on the season is by far the lowest of his career and could catch up with him eventually. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:02 pm
     
  • Lopez allows two in no-decision Thursday
    Reynoldo Lopez allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision in the Braves’ 5-2 victory over the Nationals on Thursday.



    Advice: Lopez gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven. CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas hit back-to-back home runs off him in the sixth inning. The home runs Lopez allowed were his third and fourth of the season (0.57 HR/9). Only Ranger Suarez and Luis Gil have a lower ERA than Lopez’ 1.85 (min. 50 innings), though his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.71. He has eight quality starts but he’s only won three of his 11 starts this year. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Orioles on the road next week.

  • Edwin Díaz strikes out two in rehab appearance
    Edwin Díaz (shoulder) struck out two in a scoreless inning on Thursday in a minor league rehab appearance for High-A Brooklyn.

    Advice: Díaz threw 14 pitches (11 strikes) and was reportedly touching 98 mph on his heater in his first rehab outing as he works his way back from a right shoulder impingement that sent him to the injured list back in late May. The 30-year-old righty figures to take over as New York’s primary closing option once he returns, despite his struggles this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:32 pm
     
  • Stanek pitches scoreless ninth to get save vs. A’s
    Ryne Stanek didn’t allow a hit while picking up a save Thursday against the Athletics.

    Advice: Stanek got the save chance with Andres Munoz (back) unavailable Thursday. The right-hander didn’t pick up a strikeout, but he was able to lower his ERA to 3.52 while procuring his fourth save of the season.   • Getting second start
    Woodford is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.

    Advice: The White Sox called Woodford up from Triple-A Charlotte last week to fill the opening in the rotation that was created by Mike Clevinger's (elbow) placement on the 15-day injured list. Woodford's White Sox debut wasn't a memorable one -- he gave up three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings in a May 28 loss to the Blue Jays -- but he'll get at least one more turn through the rotation while the team waits on Clevinger's return.   • Jalen Beeks melts down in ugly blown save vs. Reds
    Jalen Beeks was charged with five runs in the ninth inning on Wednesday in a blown save against the Reds.

    Advice: Beeks was called upon to protect a narrow one-run lead on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field and wound up recording a pair of outs before serving up a go-ahead two-run homer to Spencer Steer. He was lifted from the contest after loading the bases and was charged with all three additional runs when rookie Angel Chivilli coughed up a grand slam to Jonathan India. Not great. Unfortunately for the Rockies, they don’t have a ton of alternatives at the moment in the ninth inning besides occasionally turning to Tyler Kinley. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:28 pm
     
  • Remains in rotation
    Vasquez is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks at Petco Park, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

    Advice: Neither Yu Darvish (groin) nor Joe Musgrove (elbow) is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list until next weekend, so Vasquez will unsurprisingly stick around in the San Diego rotation for another turn. After being called up from Triple-A El Paso, Vasquez started in last Saturday's win over the Royals, giving up three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five in five innings.   • Beginning rehab assignment
    Diaz (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Brooklyn on Thursday.

    Advice: Diaz threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday and has now been cleared to test things out in a game setting. He is eligible for activation from the 15-day injured list on June 11 when the Mets return home from London. Barring a setback, Diaz should be ready to go that day.
