    Advice: It was a bit of a tough-luck loss for Hudson, as he held the Marlins scoreless until they tagged him for two runs in the fifth inning. The right-hander returned to the mound for the sixth frame and was pulled with two men on base, falling one out shy of a quality start. Despite the loss, this was one of Hudson's better starts this season -- he came in having allowed at least three earned runs in four of his five outings.     Burnes (3-1) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk across six innings against the Yankees. He struck out six

    Advice: All the damage against Burnes came in the fifth inning when Oswaldo Cabrera launched a two-run home run. Despite allowing three or fewer runs for a seventh straight start, Burnes was stuck with the loss Wednesday as the Orioles offense could only manage three total hits and didn't score. While Burnes has allowed a home run in six of his seven starts this season, he owns a 2.61 ERA over 41.1 innings with 41 strikeouts -- the sixth most in the American League.     Gil (2-1) picked up the win Thursday, allowing two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 6.1 scoreless innings against Baltimore.

    Advice: Gil rebounded from his first bad start of the season, completing six innings for the first time all season while blanking the O's. Gil has allowed three or fewer hits in all but one start this season but has allowed 20 walks in 31 innings, leading to an overall ERA of 3.19. The 26-year-old has been a pleasant surprise in the back end of the Yankees rotation and could find himself among the elite fantasy pitchers if he can reign in his walk problem.   • Jordan Montgomery hit for six runs in loss
    Jordan Montgomery allowed six runs over three innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

    Advice: Montgomery had pitched well in his first two starts of the season, but was tagged for six runs against the Dodgers. Andy Pages got the scoring started with a two-run homer. Two doubles, a walk, and a base hit brought three more in to score before the end of the frame. Will Smith added a solo homer to lead off the third. Montgomery would complete the inning, but that would be it. The 31-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 5.63 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and an 8/4 K/BB ratio across 16 innings.     Advice: After being tagged for seven runs and four long balls in his last start, Musgrove set a season high in strikeouts and notched his fourth quality start of the campaign. While three of the four hits did go for extra bases, including a first-inning solo homer by Spencer Steer, Musgrove was able to keep his opponent to less than three runs for the first time in four starts. Through eight starts, Musgrove owns a 2.2 HR/9 after having not allowed more than 1.1 HR/9 since 2017. He's tentatively scheduled for a start Tuesday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.     Ashcraft didn't factor into the decision during Wednesday's 6-2 loss to San Diego, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out four.

    Advice: Ashcraft's two unearned runs came in the fourth, when a two-out, two-RBI Jurickson Profar single plated Jackson Merrill -- who reached via error -- and Tyler Wade. Even with the mishap, Ashcraft left the game with the score knotted up at two, where it stood until Jake Cronenworth clubbed a grand slam in the seventh. Ashcraft has posted back-to-back quality starts and hasn't taken a loss since five starts. He'll look to extend that streak to six Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.     Advice: Despite tying for the second most strikeouts of his career and tying his season-best hits allowed total, Sandoval was stuck with his third consecutive loss as the Angels could only muster one run via a solo homer by Ehire Adrianza. He's now in a four-way tie for the most losses in baseball and has yet to complete six innings in a start this year.     Wheeler (3-3) picked up the win Wednesday against the Angels, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: Although Wheeler wasn't able to extend his streak of one-hit starts, he delivered another excellent outing. His lone blemish came in the second inning when Ehire Adrianza swatted a two-out solo homer. Wheeler has been one of the best arms in baseball lately, having surrendered one run on seven hits with 22 strikeouts in 18.1 innings across his last three starts.     Justin Steele (hamstring) was a bit rusty in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits over his 3 1/3 innings of work.

    Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw walked one and struck out four on the day, throwing 41 of his 63 total pitches for strikes. Cubs’ skipper Craig Counsell told reporters afterwards that all went well with Steele’s start and that he’ll meet the team in Chicago on Friday to determine the next step.
