    • Nabs 12th save
Sewald pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save over Atlanta on Wednesday.

Advice: Sewald entered the contest with a two-run lead in the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side for his 12th save of the campaign. It was a nice bounceback effort for the reliever, who had allowed multiple runs in three consecutive outings prior to Wednesday's appearance. It was also Sewald's third appearance in which he didn't allow any hits or walks over his last six. Rotowire.com Today, 5:17 am
    • Shaky in loss
Lorenzen (5-5) took the loss against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks over five innings while striking out three.

Advice: Lorenzen really struggled in the second inning, hitting Logan O'Hoppe with a pitch to open the frame before then surrendering back-to-back walks and two hits, one of which went for a home run to give the Angels an early 4-0 lead. All of the right-hander's four walks came over the first two innings and he actually went 1-2-3 through each of the final two frames, but still ended up taking the second loss in his last three starts. It marked the third outing in a row in which Lorenzen has issued at least four walks and the second time in his last three starts that he's allowed five runs. On a more positive note, he's now gone at least five innings in six straight. Rotowire.com Today, 4:29 am
    • Michael Lorenzen surrenders five runs in loss
Michael Lorenzen allowed five runs over five innings in a loss to the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: This was a rough one for Lorenzen. He walked two batters in the second inning before Zach Neto brought a run in to score with a base hit. Mickey Moniak followed with a three-run homer. Neto doubled in a fifth run for the Angels in the third inning. Lorenzen tossed two more scoreless frames, ending his day after five innings. The 32-year-old right-hander ends the first half with a 3.52 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 65/44 K/BB ratio across 92 innings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:19 pm
    • Paul Sewald ends skid with 12th save vs. Braves
Paul Sewald tossed a clean ninth inning to convert the save against the Braves on Wednesday.

Advice: Sewald came into this one having blown his last three save chances. Manager Torey Lovullo expressed his confidence in the veteran closer and went back to him with a two-run lead in the ninth on Wednesday. Sewald shut the door on Atlanta with a clean frame for his 12th save. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:16 pm
    • Earns 15th save
Foley earned a save in Wednesday's win over the Guardians, walking one and recording the final two outs in the ninth inning.

Advice: Foley was summoned to protect a 5-4 lead with one out in the ninth inning and stranded a runner on third to secure his 15th save in 17 attempts. It was a gutsy effort, as he entered Wednesday having yielded four earned runs over his previous four appearances. On the season, the 28-year-old owns a 3.41 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB over 31.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:02 pm
    • Jason Foley slams door on Guardians on Wednesday
Jason Foley slammed the door on the Guardians on Wednesday evening, preserving a two-run advantage to earn his 15th save of the season.

Advice: Alex Faedo started the ninth inning with a two-run advantage, but he allowed run and had the tying run at third base with only one out when manager A.J. Hinch turned to Foley. The 28-year-old right-hander got Tyler Freeman to bounce to first baseman Gio Urshela who cut down the potential tying run at the plate. After an intentional walk and a wild pitch put two runners back in scoring position, Foley got Austin Hedges to ground out to short to end it. Foley now sports a 3.41 ERA to go with 15 saves in 17 chances on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:21 pm
    • Taking seat Wednesday
Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Tyler Nevin will draw the start at first base while Soderstrom heads to the bench for the second time in four games. The 22-year-old has fallen into a rut at the plate over his last 10 contests, going 6-for-37 (.162 average) with a home run and three RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:39 pm

    • Could return shortly after break
Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Friedl (hamstring) is trending toward a return from the 10-day injured list in 7-to-10 days after the All-Star break, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl was cleared earlier this week to begin a running progression as he works his way back from a strained right hamstring. It's not clear yet whether he will require a rehab assignment before returning from the IL, but he'll most likely require some games in the minors because he's already missed more than two weeks of action. Friedl should regain his role as the Reds' regular center fielder upon his activation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:17 pm

    • Still experiencing symptoms
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Brown is still experiencing lingering discomfort in his neck, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Brown has been shelved since mid-June with a neck strain and doesn't appear to have made much progress. He had been cleared to resume throwing in late June, but it's uncertain where he currently stands in his throwing program. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:01 pm
