    • Kyle Tucker (shin) hasn’t resumed baseball activity
MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart reports Kyle Tucker (shin) has yet to resume baseball activities.

Advice: Tucker is still walking with a limp and has yet to resume any baseball activities at this juncture. There was some optimism earlier this week that he was getting close, but clearly is still going to need some extra time to recover. There isn’t a definitive timeline for his return to Houston’s lineup at this point. He’s been out since early June recovering from a shin contusion. It’s fair to wonder if he’s dealing with something more serious like a hairline fracture at this point. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the near future. • Lays down productive bunt
Friedl went 0-for-2 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch in Friday's 5-2 win over Boston.

Advice: Friedl, who was hitless in 14 consecutive at-bats when he came up in the seventh inning with runners in scoring position, was thinking bunt. The player that led the majors last season with 17 bunt hits laid down a squeeze bunt. When the throw to the plate got past Red Sox catcher Connor Wong, both runners scored, giving Cincinnati some separation. Friedl is batting .209/.320/.372 with six steals, four home runs, 16 RBI and 14 runs scored through 24 games. Rotowire.com Today, 5:22 am

    • TJ Friedl (hamstring) returns to action on Friday
TJ Friedl (hamstring) returned to the Reds’ starting lineup for Friday night’s series opener against the Red Sox.

Advice: Friedl had missed each of the team’s last two games due to tightness in his hamstring. The 28-year-old outfielder has struggled to stay on the field this season, managing to hit .214/.320/.381 with four homers, 15 RBI and six stolen bases in just 23 games in-between stints on the injured list. He’s starting in left field and batting leadoff for the Reds on Friday night against Kutter Crawford and the Red Sox. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:17 pm

    • Back in Cincinnati lineup
Friedl will start in center field and bat leadoff in Friday's game versus the Red Sox.

Advice: Friedl missed two games after his hamstring tightened up on him Monday, but he's ready to go now following the Reds' team off day Thursday. Although he's slashed just .214/.320/.381 so far in an injury-shortened season, Friedl does have four home runs and six stolen bases over 97 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:09 pm

    • Aims for baseball activities soon
Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that he's hopeful Tucker (shin) will be ready to begin baseball activities this weekend, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Tucker's recovery from a right shin contusion has come along more slowly than expected, but he seems to have made some progress in recent days. Because he's already missed more than two weeks, Tucker could require a brief rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:25 am

    • Espada: “Hopeful” Tucker start activities
Astros manager Joe Espada said he was “hopeful Kyle Tucker can begin doing baseball activities on the field this weekend.”

Advice: Tucker’s shin contusion has kept him out longer than most expected, but it’s nice to hear he may progress to working out on the field this weekend. If that goes well, he may require a few rehab games since he’s been out for almost two weeks, but we could see Tucker back in an Astros uniform by the end of next week if his shin responds well to these next steps. • Plates pair in Wednesday's win
Rooker went 2-for-3 with two RBI singles and a walk in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Rooker's timely hitting led to two of the Athletics' five runs, with the veteran driving home JJ Bleday in the third and seventh innings with his pair of singles. Rooker has now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, but a 42.9 percent strikeout rate has helped lead to a lackluster .211/.262/.368 slash line in that same span. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:47 am

    • Brenton Doyle brings home winning run vs. Dodgers
Brenton Doyle went 0-for-3 with two RBI against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Advice: Doyle went hitless on Wednesday, but still had two of the Rockies’ biggest at-bats. He brought in the tying run in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly. With the game still tied in the bottom of the ninth, he brought the winning run in to score with his second sacrifice fly. The 26-year-old outfielder is hitting a solid .271/.337/.402 with six homers, 43 runs scored, 23 RBI, and 18 steals across 283 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:24 pm

    • Remains out Wednesday
Friedl (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: He'll take a seat for the second day in a row while he recovers from a tight hamstring, which he sustained while making a diving catch in the fifth inning of Monday's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. The Reds seem to be viewing Friedl as day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could become more realistic if he isn't ready to play coming out of Thursday's off day. Friedl's absence Wednesday will open up a spot in the outfield for Stuart Fairchild. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:31 am
